PLEASE HELP ASAP, Neon tetra started laying eggs

I had her in a basket as I knew she had eggs, but she wasn't doing a thing so I just let her out, I came home to only 5 eggs laid on the side of the tank, I carefully removed them and put her and the eggs in the homemade baby basket I made for her! She has a piece of a plastic in her net for her to lay on?

How many does an average neon lay as far as eggs? How long do I give her to lay all her eggs before I remove her from the net? And don't I have to keep the eggs covered in complete darkness for like 24 hours or something???? Not finding much online at all????????

I know not all the eggs will hatch, but I would be thrilled to have just one hatch. Can you tell I have NEVER had baby fry before....

Any info would be very helpful, because I do not want her to start to eat her own eggs!

Well shoot. I have no info on baby neons other than that they are adorable, so I was hoping to see the little ones grow up. Hopefully you'll get more soon.

Sorry that I'm late but hopefully you'll see eggs soon. If you see eggs once, most likely you'll see them again.

Once you see eggs on the bottom you'll have to separate them or they'll eat whatever they can see. Once separated I tend to keep them in full darkness for about 2 days (checking on them from time to time) and then slowly introduce light and food.

To see how many hatched you have to wait 24 hrs and shine a little light (flashlight works best) and the ones that hatched should shoot up like a rocket. It's important you keep the water as clean as possible.

Neon tetras are much harder to breed when compared to other tetras. But once they do you'll have a wonderful time watching them grow.

1. A female Neon Tetra by herself cannot lay fertile eggs. The male has to be there to fertilize them as they are sprayed out.

2. Neons do not lay eggs on the side of the tank. They scatter them in the plants or over the substrate.

Your neon did not lay eggs. Something else did, possibly a snail or a catfish. The eggs of neons are very, very small, most people cannot see them without magnification.
