If I am not wrong, they are more of a mid and bottom range sleeper.

For new neon tetra, if I find any sleeping near the surface like guppies and mollies, I usually find them dead the next day.

Anyone has any experience on this?

All my tetras ONLY come to the top to feed. The neons and cardinals sleep low in the tank, back in the weeds, and are dull in their coloring...until they adjust to the light.

I've never kept any of the "shark" type of fish....it is possible if he is a night feeder too, there maybe problems of neons getting stressed after lights out.

My rainbow shark gives my danios a run for their money. I can't imagine him chasing neons around. Stress magnified.

What size tank is this?

Those neon tetra are under quarantine.

So that is why when I saw 1 sleeping near the surface, my 2 cents told me it will be floating tomorrow and it did.

Bought 16 Neon Tetra,6 Diamond Head and 10 Cardinal on the 10th May.
(Total Price US$14)

Deaths so far are :
12th May Morning, 1 Neon Tetra and 1 Cardinal.
14th May Morning 2 Neon Tetra
No death on 15th May Morning.

They were dull in color when they arrive at my home on the 11th May. Now the color are normal.

They are shy to feed at the top at the moment and prefer mid range. I feed them tiny baby fish food that can float and sink.

How big is your Rainbow Shark?
My Rainbow Shark is in the below link.

If you look at my Aquarium 1 with the rainbowshark.
I actually have 2 Neon Tetra left. (Black Neon have no casualties)
1 went missing about 3 weeks or more ago.

I never get to see the Rainbow Shark chasing the Neon nor the danios but it does chase the Rosy or the barbs once in a while.
