Neon Tetra Disappearing And Reappearing Months Later

As the title says, for about a month and a half I was missing one of my neon tetras, and today I came back home and noticed he was back!

Just wondering if neons normally do this or not.
Also what would have made him just disappear like that?

No I don’t think Neons normally do this. I wonder how it stayed alive, ate, and was out of your sight for that long. But hey at least you found it alive and not dead!

Theres a fish guy on youtube (cant remember which one) who had a fish get stuck in his undergravel filter (I think) and was missing for months. When he cleaned or redid his tank, he found the fish miraculously alive and ok. If anyone knows this vid, can you post it?
Could something like this have happened to you and you just didn't notice?

Sorry I don't have more details on the video, he just talked about it so the details escape me.

I remember a video where a guy found a fish in a canister filter when he was cleaning it out in his bathtub. Said he lost it months prior, but it was fine, probably eating whatever food scraps got sucked up in there as well. Might be the same one your thinking of.
I saw another one where a guy had found a pleco, I think, that he had thought died, living in a murky tank that was nearly drained and had been sitting for a couple months, so no food, or filtration. Its amazing what fish can live through!

That might have been it! I couldnt remember the filter exactly. Was it Flip Aquatics? Blah, I binge watch those guys and they start melding together, lol.

He’s even a little bigger than the others, and acts all normal... I’m completely lost as to how he was able to stay unseen but I’m super happy he is okay!

I don’t know if it might point to anything but he is breathing quicker than the others. Other than that he seems completely fine

I'm glad your fish is fine. I'm sure hes just adjusting to being back with his buds!

I am the exact same way.. I get on the youtube and let autoplay go.. I just remember that thing coming out of the guck and being amazed it survived. I found it on there, but idk how to link it. I searched "fish found in filter" and it came up. Master Aquatics is who posted the vid. It was a pictus catfish and he made it I believe.

Even when I first got the neons they were too big to get into the filter (that was my original worry when I got them)

Whatever happened, I’m just glad the little guy is okay!
