neon tetra disappearance

I purchased 7 neon tetras and had them in a 16 g tank with 2 bala sharks,2 killifish,1 male guppy,2 buenos areas tetras,3 daniels,1 goldfish.3 dissapeared overnight, than after a few days another one....as of now there are no more neons in my tank.its kind of hard to believe that the other fish ate them since most of the other fish are just babies(1 to 2 inches length)...I am trying to figure out the mistery dissapearences...maybe the filter??maybe they died than they were eaten????please help with any suggestions

Re: mistery dissapearance of 7 neon tetras

Umm, I don't know about the neons as some of mine have gone missing as well. Realy wierd. But I do know that most of the fish there are tropical fish, but goldfish are coldwater fish and shouldn't be in a tank with tropical fish. :-\ + I think your tank might be overstocked. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. soz if I am.

Soz I couldn't help.

Re: mistery dissapearance of 7 neon tetras

The tetras could very well have died and been eaten. They aren't too big and you've got quite a few fish to snack on them. Also, check the floor nearby - some may have jumped out.

Might I advise you to return the Bala Sharks if you won't be able to get a 50+ gallon tank? They get to be 8 inches or so (sometimes bigger!) and will not live well in too small of a tank.

You said that you have 3 daniels (my name) but do you mean angels or danios? Your tank is way overstocked and bala sharks need more than a 50 gallon aquarium since they get to 13 inches long!

Re: mistery dissapearance of 7 neon tetras

thanx to every one for the comments...the fact is that my husband is the one who just goes and buys fish without knowing anything about them besides my advice to him..i'm the one who cleans the tank and worries about this fish...lol...but we are definetly considering to get a bigger tank, after realizing that most of these fish will gett bigger..as for my poor neons...there was no way they couldv jumped since there is a covertop,...and hard to believe they died since they were perfectly healthy ...plus they dissapeared overnight and more than one at a time...not that it matters now since i'm not gonna put any neons in there again..just so noone else makes the same mistake...thanx again for your time and output..iris

They probably died and then either got sucked up by the filter or eaten. Your tank is WAAAAAY too small for that many. Has your tank cycled?

I'll bet the shark got them. They probably got eaten if they were the new fish in the tank and the shark was hungry.
