I have a piar of the above, the male is a lot brighter than the female, butthis morning i came down and the female's colours are nearly as bright as the male.

Most likely getting ready to spawn. Jeweled Cichlids (Hemichromis bimaculatus) are really pretty.

Thank you for the link and your help. This pair share a tank with other cichlids, will the eggs be safe or any clues on what i should do?

They (in typical cichlid fashion) will get really aggressive as they get ready to spawn and more so after lay ingtheir eggs. Depending on the tank size and how crowded it is the atmosphere could get really nasty. If you want to breed them and have another tank you could seperate them until the fry are about 1/4th inch long then put the adults back in the original tank.

Thank you for your reply.

Is it possible that cichlids can cross breed? the reason for this question is the male has never shown any interest in the female?

Some Cichlids can cross breed. Thats where the hybrids come from.
