Hey all,
So I recently added my Neon Blue Discus to my 55 gallon last night. He was shipped to me via LiveAquaria and I picked him up and put him into a bucket to drip acclimate. As soon as I emptied him into the bucket, he started darting around, sometimes slapping into the side of the bucket. I thought he may just be stressed from the ride over, so I started acclimating him. After 45 minutes I put him into the tank. Immediately, he ran to the bank of the tank and started swimming back and forth rapidly, occasionally running into my heater or filter.
I'd already done a water change that day (20%) and my water parameters are great. 0 ammonia, - nitrates, 0 nitrites. 7.8 PH, 80-82 degrees. So I turned off my lights in my aquarium a couple hours earlier than usual and went to bed. I woke up and turned on the lights this morning and the "dashing" seemed to have subsided, but instead he's now just hiding and won't come out to eat or interact with the other discus. They aren't picking on him as far as I can tell and none of my other fish would hurt him.
-10 Serpae Tetras
-10 Pristella Tetras
-4 discus (including him)
-5 albino cories
-4 platies
-2 peacock gudgeons
-1 pearl gourami
His colors seem to be brighter than when he arrived (beautiful blues/greens) but he's just so skittish, especially when I approach the tank. When I approach after coming home from work, ALL the fish (discus, tetras, gourami, platies) swim to the front of the tank and follow me around the room (they know when I come home I usually give them some blood worms). But this new guy flees to the back and hides.
What should I do? More water changes or just let him acclimate himself? No clamped fins or heavy breathing or discoloration also.
Thanks ahead of time,
AG
