Hi all.

What are some specific substrate brands that people enjoy working with?
I'm doing low tech planted....undecided on if I'll do a shrimp or snail tank. I'm unbiased between sand, clay, gravel substrates since I'm too inexperienced to have a solid preference yet.

Does the substrate type (sand, clay, gravel) affect anything in terms of being better for introducing root growth or is it simply a primarily cosmetic decision?

I'd prefer to buy locally since I have trouble actually receiving the things I buy online thanks to my neighborhood.

Some of the brands/substrate types that I've seen locally:
Aquasolum *** $30 for 4.4lbs black
Seachem *** $20 for 7.7lbs black gravel Seachem *** $35 for 15.4lbs red clay

Thoughts on this selection?

I've heard CaribSea eco-complete or ADA aqua soil amazonia mentioned around in vlogs specifically for planted tanks... I would have to order this online... would these brands be worth ordering online?

Thank you in advance.

If you live in the U.S. if you want black try Black Diamond Blasting Sand for $8.99 for 50 lbs or for white pool filter sand, it runs around $15 for 50 lbs. Both of those you need to use fert tabs for root feeder and liquid ferts for the column feeders, but for the price can't be beat if you need a couple hundred pounds of substrate.
