I have a chance to help one member in this forum. She use : kordon rid ich to treat her comet gold fish, on top of that she also use API salt 1 table spool per 5 gals in tank.I suggest her that use either salt or medicine .Use two in same time stress the fish more while treating them.BUT the API salt state that: The use of salt improves gil funtion, reduces stress, promote disease recovery, facilitates osmoregulation..etc..So! Should we use both? Or just use either...Note: no heat treat invol here while her fishes can only handle 60 up to 72*f max. What is your idea? Can you guy clear it out a bit more..
as I know the ich eggs hatch during 3 days with 78*f and 65*f take 13 days..So if you medicine alone with 64*f how to kill all ich parasite and eggs fast enough?

Comets can tolerate 76-78 degrees for a couple of weeks. Turn temp up and treat with meds for 7 days or so then watch and retreat if necessary. You are correct: No salt while treating with meds.

Comet goldfish are usually healthiest when the pH is between 7.2 to 7.6 and water temperature is within the range of 50 to 75° F , but can survive as low as 40° F and as high as 86° F as well as pH levels as low as 6.5.This fish need to be kept at a minimum oxygen level of 5 ppm, lower than this ,they will begin to have a host of health issues.
I know comet gold fish is hardy fish. They can handle from 40*f minimum or 86*f maximum, this fish just came from pond out side to tank house for ich treat ,so that I do not think it is a good idea to treat with heat. And I agree with the op that 64*f is ok with less stress over temp suddenly change.Just only the salt treat and med treat together that confuse me...would the two help the fish more or stress the fish more?...

A higher temp will speed up ich lifecycle though and get rid of the ich faster. At 65 it will take weeks of medication to eradicate it. An airstone in the tank will help with oxygenation. At 78°F, you aren't "treating with heat". You are just speeding up their maturation so the medication will be more effective and kill the ich faster. To treat ich with heat, you would turn the temp to 86 or higher for 10 - 14 days. You don't want to do that with any goldfish.

Yes! No heat treat here.I suggested her to increase to 78*f to process faster but I also think it is not good for pond gold fish so I agree with tank 64*f .My question is :
Just only the salt treat and med treat together that confuse me as she want it this way While I sugesst her only med treat.Would the two help the fish more or stress the fish more?
if we just treat with med at 64*f then med will not have enough time to catch up with process. So! Should we do both Salt in 2 weeks and med in time lenght?

Still have no answer..Should I let it go?
