Hey guys,
So I got some neon tetras and I plan to start breeding them (I have bread egg-laying fish before, just not tetras) and all I could find about information is the eggs take 24 hours to hatch, but how long does she carry the eggs for? as in let's say I put a pair in my breeding tank today and they decide to spawn how long does it take before she's able to start laying eggs?? How long does she carry those eggs for? Thanks everyone for your time!

I'm no expert on tetras, but from what I've read most well conditioned tetras spawn the morning after you put them together. Side note...neon tetra fry are very fragile. They need infusoria at birth, they are light sensitive, and the eggs (which are also light sensitive) will not hatch in the first place if the water is not very soft and acidic. Not trying to discourage you, just giving you a heads up

I think Keicola46 is asking how long the female Neon carries the fertilized eggs. Answer: She doesn't. The eggs are fertilized when she releases them. The pair dash alongside each other into the plants, the female releases eggs and the male releases sperm. They don't mate like livebearers.
