I know I am suppose to boil it4 to u days depending on dumping vinegar on it to see if it fizzes or not.. But can't I just boil it and stick it in the bucket from my water change? To see if it changes my ph or not? This is my first time looking for wood in my tank outside so ideas would be awsome please and thank you

The vinegar test is for rocks but I could be wrong. Try to determent what type of wood is it just driftwood. Also in my past experience boiling wood and then putting into a bucket of water will get it to sink faster but in the long term about 6/8 months the wood will get funky where I had to throw out some pieces. I heard Hampalong say this a few times and I had already boiled my wood but he was right at least with my wood anyway.

Edit: Tell us where you got the wood maybe that would help someone answer your question.

The vinegar test is for rocks, any hardwood or fruit wood should be fine. You shouldn't need to boil it, I would take the bark off and just scrub under running water with a stiff brush. Do not use any evergreen wood or cedar. Yes you could soak it in old tank water. or you can weigh it down with a rock until it stays put on it's own. Just make sure that any wood that you use has not been sprayed with insect sprays or weed killers, or fungus sprays. Alison

I don't it coulda got sprayed in the woods by this creek/river I wouldnt think kinda far from a road.. so your saying if I take the bark and scrub it,it will beable to be placed in my tank today. I have the log in my garage I have to cut it with a saw to the right size of my tank but I also grab a couple of twigs from tree branchs you think they would be ok too?
