Need Help With White Stuff On Betta’s Face

I have a betta that I purchased last night at walmart. I got him a new tank, bought the bottled water they sell and washed everything with hot water before putting Otis in his new home. Today I notice he has white cloudy stuff on his face. He is still alive. What could this be? Am I missing something with water care?

Purchased a betta last night along with tank and bottled water for betta. Cleaned tank with hot water before ise. Today Otis has a white cloudy substance on his face. What could this be and how do I help him?

Yikes.

That looks serious, some kind of fungus. :/

So you only got him last night and that grew overnight?

That bottled betta water is not necessary. I have heard people say it sometimes looks dirty.

Your tank must be very small. Have you read on Betta care? They need at *least* a 2 and a half gallon tank with a filter and heater. 5 gallons is better.

I am hoping someone else will reply soon. I am honestly not sure your fish will make it. He may have been sick before you got him, or maybe it was something in that betta water bottle. But the speed of this fungus scares me.

Hi, sorry your betta is sick!
Mind answering some of these questions?

Did you cycle this tank before adding fish?
What are the parameters of the tank?
What is the temperature?

If you didn't cycle the tank, he'll just run into further problems by having a quick buildup of toxins in the water, which won't be removed until you do a water change.
I strongly recommend you get a larger tank if your tank is not at least 2.5 gallons, or larger, and cycle this aquarium.

Read about the nitrogen cycle. Very important.

It likely a fungus infection from yucky water conditions in the store and then being placed in an uncycled aquarium. Its very treatable, but you'll need to do lots of reading and tank maintenance sooner rather than later.
