Need Help With Seachem Safe Dosing

I just received my first purchase of Seachem Safe. I've have always used Prime and still will use it for smaller dosing.

My first question involves using Safe for a PWC in a 75 gallon freshwater community tank.

I turned off all my filters and drained 50% of the tank down while performing my usual substrate vac.

I used a 1/8 teaspoon scoop, and scooped up the Safe filling it halfway and dumped it into the tank.

I then filled the tank up and added another half scoop using the 1/8 teaspoon scoop

The 75 gallon tank received a total of 1/8 teaspoon of Safe for the 50% pwc.

I then turned all my filters back on.

Is this the proper dosing for my application?

Second question....

I used a bleach solution to clean some artificial plants and some ornaments in a bucket. They sat in the mild solution for a few hours then I rinsed everything off thoroughly. Everything now is soaking in 4 gallons of water in the bucket. I added a 1/8 teaspoon scoop of safe to it to dechlorinate the bleach.

Did I use enough Safe or should I add more?

Finally, I use the 100ml bags of Purigen. I have 3 in total. In the past after recharging them, I used Prime to declorinate.

If I used Safe, how much would I dose if the rinsed Purigen bags were in a container with 2-3 quarts of water?

Thanks for your input!

Ok I know everyone will say you are not supposed to but I pre mix my safe with water .I believe that 1 teaspoon treats 1,000 gallons !
I pre mix the 1 teaspoon with 500ml water. I then use 2ml per gallon.I keep my solution in a black plastic bottle. I have done this for four kilos of safe probably over half a million gallons ! They just recently changed their strength or at least realized how strong the powder is .It used to be 3-4 teaspoon per 1,000 g I think which was too strong. I know this and that me mixing is safe because I own a chlorine test kit. They also went from clear plastic container to opague .

So 1/8 a Tsp is about 125g I think.
When I rinse bleach dipped things I OD a bucket since I am liquid.I add like 10ml[20g worth] in a 1 g bucket without issue .
I know that sounds wasteful but better safe then sorry and a kilo treats 200,000 gallons I think so no real loss.
I know many say that prime is the best deal going but I get a kilo for the same price of 5,000 gallons worth of prime...That's 40X the product for the same money...
I have used safe for over 4 years straight now...I have been mixing it with water the whole time !

Hello Island...

I use 1/8th teaspoon of the "Safe" product in every five gallons if tap water. This amount seems to do the job. All this product does is remove chlorine and chloramines from the tap water and detoxifies forms of nitrogen. So, you can't overdose the water. The "Safe" product can't poison the tank.

I’m about to order some too as my prime is running low. I’ve heard that people will pre mix it into their old 500ml bottle, I’m hoping to do that and dose it as a liquid. Hmm

I can't comment on the use of Safe for individual tanks, mine are all small enough that I use Prime.
But I do use Safe for de-bleaching, both tanks/ornaments, and purigen. In these cases (ie being a couple of steps removed from your fish/etc), there is no harm in overdosing, no matter how over the top. That said, after treating with Safe, I rinse everything one last time under tap water. The tiny amount of chlorine in the tap water won't undermine your dechlor process.
It's pretty hard to measure anything less than 1/8tsp (unless you mix as liquid first), so that's what I measure, and I've never had a problem. 1/8tsp in a 3 gal pail of tap water to de-bleach equipment/ornaments/etc, and the same amount in a juice pitcher to de-bleach after purigen (which uses a much higher amount of bleach).
So without getting into decimals that are generally meaningless at lower volumes, I think you're in the right ballpark.
