Need Help With Scaping Empty Tank

Yesterday I took everything out of my tank to restart it. Today, I want to scape it but don’t know how or what to do.
Here’s what it looks like rn. The sponge is just to not put pressure in the glass.

Any ideas how I should scape it?

I would start by gathering a large amount of hardscape - large rocks and large wood, hardscape should take up most of the horizontal and vertical area.

You might go with one of the patterns for aquascaping

Bags of pea gravel under your substrate will help you get higher in the tank using less substrate

The problem with Pea Gravel being topped with a finer substrate is eventually the Pea Gravel migrates to the surface.

Yeah, that’s what I planned to do. I'm just waiting for some supplies to arrive. I also got a cool piece of manzanita wood that I have to debark.

I don't think that happens if it’s in a nylon bag.

Random but at lowes pea gravel in bags is a fraction of the cost at pet stores.

But that nylon bag has holes in it, the finer substrate will still migrate to the bottom over time. Especially if you plan on doing sand. I bought 200 lbs. of BDBS today for $36 out the door.

I’m still trying to remove the bark but so far, which one looks better? I have other rocks that I can use but most don’t have any nice forms. Thoughts?

If you can find a way to combine 1 and 4 that would look really nice. Perhaps the largest rock goes in the back.

I've never had any issue with the bags of pea gravel, that's what I love about this hobby, everyone does it their own way.. there is no right way to go.. definitely a wrong way though. Lol

Have you thought about spider wood? You can get some pretty big pieces for cheap on eBay. You can do a lot with spider wood, all the different shapes and sizes, make it a beautiful addition to any aquarium. I recommend going to local small businesses before buying off of eBay, but sometimes the local places don't really have what your looking for.

I have but I don’t want to pay more $10 for driftwood. This piece was from a wedding centerpiece, so I got it for free.

Thanks, I’ll try that rn

I'd move the largest even further left so it goes behind the wood, then move some of the smaller ones on the left to the right.

I changed out the large rock to a smaller one.

looking good!!! how are you removing the bark? I have some branchy wood that's a bit similar, but it's a pain to sandpaper and file all of it...

Thanks! I have it sitting in direct sunlight and it seems like it’s peeling it on its own.
