need help with light

Hey guys I have a older (dont know how old) 48" perfecto single tube strip. its a little finicky has been since I got it (used of coarse ) I turned it off last night as always no problem.

This morning I went to turn it on and nothing not a flicker or a click nothing so I take it off take out the bulb put it back in and it comes on I lift to put back on it went off so I start to put it back down and a little shake its on I put it on the tank its off so on till it pops on on the tank.

What's up with this is it the starter the ballest it can't be the bulb its a brand new ge plant and aquarium bulb just put it in 7 days ago.

So any answer is a help thanks fishy people

You could check the contacts on the fixture and clean them and make sure they weren't bent in or anything causing a bad connection. Other than I would think the ballast, in my experience with household fluorescent fixtures the ballasts where almost as much as a new fixture.

 

Have you tried your old bulb?
When I popped in a plant bulb last week into my used hood it did the same thing, needing manual intervention to get it to go. I've since upgraded to a zoo med fixture but I assumed it was because the older ballsst\starter weren't made for this current tech even though the bulbs fit. Puttingin the old bulb it works fine so that is why I go with that theory.

I just put another new bulb in the ge want cutting it came right on stayed on so far but I just put it in

Often bad contact
Maybe because of something bad quality(Not perfect construction)
