For a 55 gal, that sound fine! I would even add more pearl gouramis.

Awesome. I got the sand, plants and water in tonight! The water is slightly cloudy so I will let it settle before turning on the filters. I rinsed the pool filter sand until it ran clear and then rinsed it some more!!!

Is it okay to put the air bubbles in front of the heater? I am trying to mask it a little bit. I also have a background I am putting on it.

I have all sorts of junk floating on the top of my water. I rinsed the sand and decor. I am hoping the filter takes car if it or I could skI'm it out with my hand.

For the floating stuff I just get my net and skI'm around for a while.

Air bubbles below the heater will spread the heat around For a more even temp. So that's a good idea.

Got everything hooked up tonight! How many days should it run before I get the fish and start cycling with TSS?

I went to Petco and they had Peatl gouramis. I love them! I think I for sure want those now.

You don't need to let the tank "run" at all. You can add fish and TSS+ 24 hours after using Prime (or another ammonia-locking dechlorinator). If you used a plain dechlorinator, you can add fish and TSS+ once you get the temp correct.

Thanks! I am adding the prime tomorrow morning. I plan on either getting the fish Thursday or Friday. My kids and myself came down with a cold today so hopefully we will be better so we can go get fish!

Oh. I also plan on setting the temp at 78 degrees. That should be fine for pearl gouramis, platies, mollies, albino corys, harlequin rasboras and cherry barbs right? I plan to double check tomorrow.

So one of the aqua tech 30-60 filters I had was still in the box. I hooked it up last night and there was a TERRIBLE grinding noise I could never fix. So I took it back to Walmart.

I then went to Petco and got the Aqua Clear 70!!!!!! They price matched their website which was $5 cheaper and I had a 20% off coupon!! I got it for $44 and that nasty Aqua Tech Filter was $42 that I returned. So excited right now. I still have one Aqua Tech 30-60 though.

I plan to go get my fish tomorrow and start cycling with TSS. I will post a picture if I can. So excited!!

I got the fish today! They have been in the tank for an hour and are finally warming up to it more. One fish laid on the bottom of the tank for 5 minutes before finally checking out the tank. I acclimated them for an hour. I am hoping they all do well!

One of my male guppies in my 10 gallon is almost dead. For over a week he has acted strange. I thought he had swim bladder so I tried feeding him a deshelled pea. He wouldn't eat it so I soaked it in garlic but he still wouldn't eat it. He looked better the last few days but then today he is curved in a c shape close to the ground. I just looked at him and it looks like a hole is forming in his head!! I doubt there is anything I can do for him. Can my other guppies get this? My water parameters are just fine at 0,0,5. I don't know why he would have gotten sick. I have had him for 2 months and nothing has been introduced to the tank.

Which fish should I add next after my tank cycles?

I have 2 mollies and 3 platies currently in there. I will add my 3 male guppies next that are currently in my 10 gallon. I am going to quarantine my next fish in the 10 gallon. Out of this list, which should I get next and how many?

7 albino corys
7 harlequin rasboras
7 cherry barbs (might only get one schooling fish. Just haven't decided which one yet)
3 pearl gourami
2 nerite snail

I would add the gouramis last and the cories and snails after you're sure the tank is fully cycled. As far as anything else I'm not very good at that which is why I waited so long to reply lol

Ok thank you. It has been 2 weeks since I added the 5 fish and TSS. I am out of town so hubby is watching my fish. When I get back in a few days I will test my parameters and see if it is cycled. If it is, I will do a water change and buy more fish next week!!!! I will probably only get 4-5 fish at a time.
