I am new to taking care of fish. I just got three tetra fish. I have 1 white skirt tetra, and two glow tetras. My fish have ich so I did my research and turned up the heat to 85, used super ich treatment and some aquarium salt. Now I’m noticing that my fish’s fins are starting to rot, could someone please help me I am trying to keep my fish alive.

Did you cycle your tank before adding fish? Also did you medicate the main tank or did you move them to a hospital tank? Their fins also look clamped. I’m not good at Recommending medication but maybe FishGirl115 do you know any medications or someone who does?

Hmm. I don't have experience with this, but maybe AcornTheBetta , JettsPapa , Mii or Betta'sAnonymous do?

No I didn’t cycle my tank before adding the fish,I toke a sample of the tank water to the pet store and they said that it was safe to add fish. I medicated my main tank.

How long you been treating for ich?
I just started yesterday.

Do you have a test kit? I would recommend you up water changes 2x a week and 50%.

Ok. You will definitely want to keep the temp up there for 6-7 days, maybe a bit longer to make sure the life cycle pf the ich parasite is all finished. I can't see anything in the pictures that screams fin rot at me. I am not sure about the feasibility of doing water changes while treating for ich.

Your tank water read fine because nothing was triggering a cycle (no ammonia). Meaning you probably let the water sit for a bit and the PH dropped a little and chlorine evaporated.

Once fish start to poop everything changes.

Educate yourself on a ‘fish in cycle’. Luckily skirt tetras are pretty hardy even for a new fish owner. However, the fish in route isn’t the best for a new owner.

Keep ammonia zero. Keep Nitrites zero. Water changes. Lots of prime/dechlorinator.

I agree with fishnovice33 your water was safe before adding fish because there was no ammonia but now there’s an overload

If you can get the water temp to 86-87 that is the ideal temp to kill the invisible baby ich and prevent further infestation. I recommend Ich-X medicine, but go with what you are already using. I would stop adding salt, This is a completely separate way to treat ich. You already raised the heat and added meds, you do not need a third method. Salt builds up and you can never remove it all, and you never know the salinity if you don't test it. Its just not ideal in your main freshwater tank.

Water changes are a good idea when the fish have ich, But you can never remove all of the invisible live tomites this way, or even all the dead ones, so do not go crazy with water changes, 1-2 extra a week is best, but first and foremost you want to follow the directions on the medicine. You will need to be doing 2-3 partial water changes anyway to keep the fish alive during the fish in cycle.
