I'm thinking fungus but I want others opinions before I treat him,
Backstory is he got caught between a rock and filter (not this tank) and scrapped some scales off a couple of days ago, and this popped up over night!
hes a Green sunfish, so related to cichlids, treat as you would one. The fish is around 4.5 inches long

Can you post a better picture? I can't really tell but it looks like a big wound.

Okay, it definitely does not look good. I would say it's fungus but maybe BottomDweller or midnacan help.

I am definitely thinking fungus. I would treat with both an anti-fungal and antibiotic as a preventative treatment.

Looks kind of clean to me. No fuzzy stuff or real redness. I'd wait with meds (and certainly antibiotics) but okay that's my idea.

Seachem StressGuard: "binds to exposed protien in wounds to promote healing in wounded fish and to reduce the likelihood of primary and secondary infections". This stuff has worked great for me. I have a Pearl Gourami that had a similar scuff she got when I was doing a gravel vac. I watched it shrink away until gone over a 10 day period. I had read about it here on fishlore so I picked some up. Glad I had it on hand.

Just wanted to update, the fish is almost completely healed now, just needs a few scales left!
