My dad said he caught 6 of these this morning fishing in a canal here in Florida and that it is probably in brackish water. He said each ranged from 10-12 inches in length. I told him they looked like a type of Cichlid that someone probably released into the Canal. I thought maybe you guys could help me identify it? Thanks in advance!

It looks like a Mayan cichlid. They are an invasive species in Florida and are all over the Southern Florida and the Everglades in particular.

You're welcome. They are supposed to be tasty too so I hope you get dinner out of them!
