Okay what is the PH for your 29 gallon? Mollies do best with a PH of 7.5-8.2. Also, mollies are brackish fish and do best in brackish conditions. I see no reason your mollies aren't breeding, as long as you have a female. They can hold sperm for up to 6 months since being with a male, and will have fry several times after.
I have no experience whatsoever with platies though sorry!

The fry may be getting eaten before you notice them. Mollies do like brackish but not necessary by any means.

"Just add water" ;D

I'd say the fry are being eaten. Livebearers really require very little effort, so if you aren't seeing results, whatever it is should be an easy fix. In this case, heavily pregnant females need to be moved to a separate tank to drop their fry, and moved back when they are done.

Brackish setup is not necessary at all, that would not make any difference but to limited your stocking options if setting up a community tank.
Cichlidnut is right, fry can generally be picked up quick unless you have a rather heavily planted tank or enough hiding places, that might be what is going on.

I found daily water changes worked extremely well , I had had a minI cycle and during I did daily pwc and I had a extreme amount of fry with in 3 days

Ok I added more females to each tank to see if it would help .I started off with just one female for each tank .my male sailfin molly looks like he want to breed because he keeps spreading his fins all the way out .

I have the opposite effect in my tank I have 3 females to each male but both males want the same female and none of the other females take their interest I'm unsure why I have never known mollies be so picky

Mollies imo are very easily distracted from people walking by the tank. I have a 2.5 gallon and I usually put any pair of livebearer with a towel over the tank. So... no tank mates, no light. That's if it is really packed in there.
