Need advice on catfish compatability

Been reading what's posted here and a few other websites but don't want to mess up my catfish decision. I like catfish but I hate that most come in well mud brown or similar shades. I'm looking for catfish that will be compatible with the following tankmates, pretty, and active during the day.

-1 Pleco (unknown variety)
-2 neon tetras
-3 Pristilla tetras
-1 golden tetra
-1 Golden Wonder Killifish
-1 Fancy Oranda Goldfish

I know it has to be peaceful (not gonna eat the tetras) and big enough not to fit in the goldfish's or Killifish's mouth and or are spikey enough to deter eating.

Well I think there's some other issues here you should take care of before you decide on a catfish. First your tetras need to be in schools of at least 6. I'm pretty sure that goldfish needs a different temperature then the rest of those fish and you should probably find out the species of your pleco so you can decide if your going to need to rehome it.

Welcome to the forum, Glad you're here. Are talking about corydora catfish or what kind of catfish are you referring to? Alison

All three tetra species school together so are happy. Goldfish is happy and is in acceptable temp according to numerous articles on them . I spent hour trying to identify pleco. He is supposed to not exceed 6 inches but looks like common. Honestly pet store isn't the best at labeling the plecos.

Not picky about species just need peaceful and nice looking. I don't want another pleco and pictus will eat my small fish

I would look into corydora catfish. they come in albino forms as well as spotted, striped, all kids of patterns. They are very peaceful and will not hurt your other fish. They are a schooling fish and like to be in groups of 6 or more of all the same kind. They stay small 3 inches or so and they are chuncky cute little bottom dwellers. you could even do a school of 8 to 12, just get the same kind. As far as your pleco goes there are many kinds. If you could post some pictures of him we may be able to tell you what kind he is. If he looks like a common but they told you he would top out at 6 inches than he may be a young male or female bristlenose pleco. The males don't start getting their bristles till they are bigger and females don't always get any. They are cute little buggers. Is this the first time you have kept fish? That is a really nice sized tank. I would love to see a picture of it if you can. Alison

Pleco being camera shy. Update is I purchased 6 peppered corys today they only an inch long . Gonna be interesting with how crazy they are and how they forget safety in numbers then panic if bigger fish approaches

Congrats on the new cory cats. They are fun to watch as they cruise around .Mine will sometimes swim to the top to see if anything tasty is on the plant roots from the floating plants. the tank near my chair is the one that has the corys in it and they like to come to the corner and watch me till I feel quilty and get up and feed them. They are personable little fish when they get settled in. I like your pleco, do you know what kind he is. Alison

No idea need help but suspect it is common and pet store lied about it staying small. Will post clearer pics when I have computer access

UPDATE: Gonna post my best pics of pleco in the pleco forum so my suspicions can be confirmed most likely.

How are your new fishy babies doing? I find that they can be kind of spazzy for a couple of days till they settle in. They are fun to watch so cute. I will keep an eye out for your pleco pictures. I love plecos. Alison
