Need advice on aquarium hood for planted tank

I have an Aqueon aquarium with its original hood with LED lights, but I would like to get a better lighting system for my plants, including using a timer. Does anyone have recommendations for a mid-priced hood with florescent lighting for a 20-gallon tall tank?

Is the light that comes with that hood removable? With a pane of glass under it? If so most led lights will fit where the old light was.

I'm guessing your current hood has LEDs built in?

LEDs are generally a lot better and less costly than fluorescent these days. They're more energy efficient, they don't generate a ton of heat waste, and they don't need yearly replacements. The ones that are built into most hoods are usually pretty crummy tho

I'd go with a simple hinged glass lid and a finnex stingray light. Basic LEDs that are more powerful than Nicrew or Beamswork, if you're growing medium light plants, and it has a nice slim profile (nice compared to using shop lights which are bulky even if cheap).

Yes, the lights are built in. I'll do some research on the glass lids. I've seen the finnex stuff before, and it all seems reasonably priced with good reviews. Thanks so much for the insight!

I got 2x20 gallons. Have glass hinged lids with Aquaneat lights. Cheap and effective.
