Need Advice For Switching Tanks

I recently bought a new 10 gallon, and I want to set it up and move everything from my 5.5 gallon tank into it (this includes the fish, as well as the gravel and water.)

Does anyone have any tips that would make this process easier and better for my fish?

 

Most of the BB is in the filter so you don't have to transfer the water as well. What is in the 5.5?

Amano? Ok just put them both in a glass of your tank water and transfer everything over. Easy. Not hard. Just add new water to the tank.

 

Here's what I would do
1. Remove the fish and put them in a storage tub or bowl or whatever. If you think it will take a while setup an airstone or sponge filter in the tub so the fish aren't sitting in stagnant water.
2. Turn off all equipment-heater, filters, etc.
3. Take the water out of the 5.5 gallon
4. Move the filter(s), gravel and whatever else you want to move over from the 5.5 to the 10 gallon
5. Fill the 10 gallon with water. It should be the same temperature and pH as the 5.5 gallon was. You can use some of the old water but it's not necessary.
6. Turn the 10 gallon filter and the 5.5 gallon filter on as well as any other equipment.
7. Put the fish in the new tank.

You would have to run the filters alongside each other for a while until the 10 gallon one cycled. Then you could remove the old 5.5 gallon one.
Alternatively you can just move the old filter media into the new filter.
