Need A Change

how's that 20 gallon redecoration going, theessigs?

A slight change. We are going to move the 5g, to where the 2 gallon is. We just don't like that 2g... its way to small for us... so we are going to put the betta in the 5 gallon and use the 2 gallon for a QT. Then we will move the 20 and hopefully we will have the new set up by then. I am going to get the 20 in place, then redecorate it.

Its kinda a little quandry cuz the 2 gallon is all girlie because it was in my daughters room, with pink rocks and stuff (but its still cycling - so no big deal) and the 5 gallon is cycled but with brown rocks because it was in my sons room... so, to move it to my daughters room means the redecor of the 5 gallon which I didnt want to do cuz I just hate wrecking a cycled tank!!

Am I babbling? sorry...

maybe you can add the new stuff to the brown tank and basicaly let it seed the new stuff as the bacterial colonies spread to the new. I guess you'd have to 'feed' the tank or have fish in it to keep the cycle going while you waiting for the new stuff to gain the bacteria, removing some of the old weekly, but this should allow you to keep the tank cycled and still redecorate it for your daughter. I hope that makes sense?

Yea! We were thinking that too.

But... What we might do, which will dealy the whole process but might be the best option for cycling, is wait for the new new tank set up, use the 5 gallon brown ugly rock to seed the new tank (youll never see it cuz the tank is so big and we can bury the rock easily), then clean the 5 gallon out take out the stuff from the 2 which should have some bacteria on it for the 5g. If we have to, we can use some seed from the 20 gallon (because the rocks are a neutral white/tan) and we can bury it under the pink stuff to create a cycle there.

AHHH -

could you follow that... I seem to be babbling this morning...

(new tank going where 20 gallon is, 20 gallon going to where 5 gallon is, 5 gallon going to where the 2 gallon is and the 2g... just in limbo for QT)

yea, I follow you so far, but if you start talking about clicking my heels together and saying "there's no place like home" i'm going back to bed.

I think after this tank jumble, my MTS might very well go into submission!

lol.. sounds like a quiet, peaceful job. just remember, if you don't want a tank to be overstocked, just 1 child per tank.

Ok... the new tank is up and running.... now we watch and wait for the cycle to begin.
20g is moved, 5 gallon is moved and redecorated, 2 gallon is broken down to substrate and moved. Now we just need to redecorate the 20 gallon (which, I'm gonna put off for now...)

why not? it sounds like you haven't had anything to do.

Hey CO.... now that my betta is in his new 5g... he looks kinda lost in there... I want to add a fish to keep him company or occupied - (or at least interested) - any recommenations?

actually, what he's doing is exploring and getting his orientation in his new surroundings. they pretty much like being alone in the tank. But you do have room to put 2 otos in there.. it would be a little overstocked, but not critically.
