Nearly White Albino Cory

So in my past post, I have shown you guys a slightly pale albino cory. There were 2 of them, one is slightly gaining its pink-ish normal albino cory color back, but one looks like it got a lot more paler.

Little guy's name is Shard. (not sure if he's a male, but for now.) Shard is having trouble swimming. Not like flipping upside or swimming to side. He swims normally, but weak. Everyone else can swim past the slight filter current, except for Shard. He got blown away slightly. Although sometimes I see him swimming along with others, while also having trouble keeping up. Shard is eating and all, and I made sure he ate a piece of boiled (peeled) pea just in case he's bloated. Or having trouble with digestion.

Some other info: Shard and Silver, the 2 albino corys I got very recently. When I first got them they weren't moving a lot. Also by the looks of it, not fed at all at the petstore. Although Silver seems to be recovering, Shard isn't.

I would lower your current while he recovers his strength. He looks battered, and a bit thin in the second photo especially.

Do you have any shrimp pellets, or even better frozen bloodworms? Id offer that to help get him in better shape. Id offer frozen bloodworms every other day for him and the regular staple diet the other days. Just until hes filled up a bit

The current is very weak, barely even. And yeah, I try to feed him blood worms occasionally (he does eat them but I have one cory who literally inhales half of the food that's in the tank, so I don't give too many of the worms) Shrimp pellets everyday along with dried shrimp.

Id do dried shrimp once a week or every other week as freeze dried foods can cause bloat

ok so I just now noticed another strange behavior. Not constantly, but when he's moving he would do this awkward bent position, and suddenly dart against the sand. Could he actually be sick? He's swimming in that weird bent position. I have seen him swimming normally though.

Yeah, he's not missing any part.

Maybe I'm just worrying a lot since he's new, and from what I can tell he wasn't fed at all when he was at the petstore. (the albino corys were housed with angelfish, so the workers there probably just assumed the corys would eat the leftover scraps.)

Right now he's swimming all normal again, still a little weak, but able to keep up with the others. I guess I'll keep an eye on him just in case anything goes wrong.

I forgot to add this small detail but when I first got him his dorsal fin was split a little bit, could that be affecting his swimming?

I understand worrying about your fish, with any new fish I'm a total nut! I fret constantly until I see enough of their behaviors to determine what's right or wrong for them.

Keep an eye out for the scratching. Cory cats will scratch themselves sometimes if they get a bit of sand stuck in their gills, as that's how they eat. If it's all the time though, or both of them start doing it, it might be a parasite problem.

I had my sterbaI in with fin nippers and some had their dorsals a little ratty, but it didn't affect their swimming any. Your little guy might just be underfed and tired.

I had an albino recovering from sepsis, and parts of his fins fell off, poor thing. He was slow and weak for a while, unable to keep up with his zoomy brothers and sisters. But with time and lots of water changes he grew stronger and his fins all grew back Patience and good water is great for them; do extra water changes, and make sure there's no ammonia or nitrites, and that your nitrates are low.

Also, keep an eye out for any red spots or streaks. That's hemorrhagic septicemia, a bacterial infection that can take them quickly if not treated right away. It can happen if the fishes immune system is weak.

Think it might have been on a wrong diet (algaewafers)

Oof

Idk, probably. I'm surprised their barbells aren't damaged. They had weird edged gravel as substrate in their tiny tanks.

My corys don't seem to be eating the bloodworms, (except for one but he eats anything that's considered food) so I'm looking to get frozen bloodworms, sinking wafers (not the algae ones), or fluval bug bites. Can't get them all at once. (parents are not very happy that I'm spending a lot of money on my pet fish, oof)

What do you guys think I should get first? I already have shrimp pellets and freeze dried bloodworms. I'm currently going for the HikarI sinking wafers since I have a gift card on Amazon someone gave me, and also my parents won't keep giving me that disappointed look on their face since I'm not actually using my money. :/ Its my money and also I'm trying to provide the best for my pets so why are they so disappointed.

If you're strapped for cash, bug bites. A small container will last you forever. Get the bottom feeder ones, they sink nice. But if you can get the frozen bloodworms too, that would be awesome. The bw will fatten them up good. The freeze dried ones are kind of short on nutrition if I remember correctly.

That's what I would do, let's see what others have to say.

Ok, so I ordered the bug bites on Amazon. Read the reviews and people say it's super small and sometimes the fish can't find them? I thought this won't be much of a worry for me since I have sand and the bites won't go between like it does on gravel.

How small are the bug bites? I bought the fluval brand.

Update on Shard: he's looking a lot alive today. I was surprised when I even found him swimming faster than the others. He's still slowly recovering though, but glad he's doing better than before.

Tbh, I guess I won't really have a problem with the fluval bites with my corys. They're like vacuums anyway and will go nuts for just a crumb of food left.

As long as they sink, you're golden. What's it say on the bottle, did you get for bottom feeders? Doesn't really matter, if they're the kind that floats just soak them in tank water till they sink. The tinier the better, then you get the sifting action, burying themselves up to their eyeballs in the sand, it's hilarious For extra fun, use a turkey baster to bury the food, thank me later

Congrats on Shard feeling better!
