Naturally Occuring Ammonia In My Water?

So I'm slightly confused. Today I tested the ammonia content in four different sources of fresh water (using the liquid master test kit). This includes mineral water and bottled spring water that I purchase from my local store, as well as my city water and well water. With each test I found that there was an approximate amount of 0.25 pmm of ammonia present in each flask.

What could cause this? Is this initial ammonia present in the water harmful to my fish?

I was reading that there's a difference between ammonium and ammonia and apparently only one form is toxic to fish, though the test kits fabricated in stores aren't able to differentiate between the two. Could this possibly have something to do with it? I'll include the link to this site and perhaps someone can help me figure this out

Could be your test kit too. We have a few other members that always have a .25 reading.

I'd say its the test kit too. If not the FDA might have gotten involved.

Should I get another kit, or is my water fine then?

Well I live in Canada, so the FDA wouldn't be involved with this case haha

Your water is fine, and the real issue isn't the kit, it's just the pH of the water influencing the outcomes and/or not using a truly white background and/or your particular eyesight. Nothing to worry about.

Usually you use bottled water to test your test kit. Personally I wouldn't worry too much but if your local fish store tests water you could have them test your tap water and see what they come up with. Yea and lighting.

Thank you!
