Still curing.
View attachment 357321

Phosphates looking a tad bit better.
View attachment 357323

I decided to test my phosphates on the Hanna last night and it flashed over the limit! So I pulled out the API test since it's a much wider range ... I don't remember what it was but it was ridiculously high! I think it was either 5 or 10. I need to do a complete water change on the bin today.

Cheese and rice... I hate those API tests sometimes too. Looks like it could be anything 1 or below, but not zero. Not too helpful, huh.

All way too high ... and even if it does show zero that doesn't mean it is. Even 0.1 is high!

Also, going to try out my buddy's Tanks and Plants bio-media called "Biohome Filter Media Hawaii"! Can't wait to get it cycled and going. Thanks for letting me try out your product Brandon

Is that just chunks of lava rock?

Yep, I definitely don't trust API for phosphates in the tank. I've got RedSea for that and nitrates, Salifert for others.

I do Hanna on phosphorus and Alk and salifert on calc, mag and nitrate. I have a stick for pH and refractometer for SG.

Those Dendros are driving me mad... I'll have to find an island to put one away from the RFA/MM garden I plan to have. Great pics of the acans and the them, thanx!

The acans are looking great Nart! That's your Blasto sitting next to them, yes? That and something greenish at the top caught my eye in the FTS, I think it's your Stella up there.

Is that a new head about to pop out in the center of the two small ones?

I thought the same thing, wondered, could that be a 4th head just starting to bulge? For me, the dendro makes me remember how bad I want a gonI someday. There is a particular alveopora that I really love, green with pink centers and looks just like a flower pot. It doesn't help that I was just watching some of Aaron's videos where he says that he prefers to stay away from NPS corals, but also that his gonI has been so easy. Definitely not ready yet.... someday though.

I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee the dendro. I really wished it was more readily available and less expensive in the hobby.
But yeah - I'm not sure if it's a new head popping up. I have not been on point with caring for the IM25 with all my side-projects. Been missing my weekly gravel vacs and my feeding has resorted to just daily free for all flake food and frozen Mysis once a week. So I have not been trying to pump up the dendro to grow. I can't wait for the rocks to be done curing just so I can put them on the rock work properly.

stella1979 Mapped out some of my coral layouts for you
Capture.JPG

My tank is just a clutter right now so that's why I haven't really taken pics of it. Low-key embarrassed showing it to you all. Many of the coral placements aren't ideal... so yeah...

I can't wait for the rocks to be done curing just so I can put them on the rock work properly.

My tank is just a clutter right now so that's why I haven't really taken pics of it. Low-key embarrassed showing it to you all. Many of the coral placements aren't ideal... so yeah...

No need to apologize for being human

Also, going to try out my buddy's Tanks and Plants bio-media called "Biohome Filter Media Hawaii"! Can't wait to get it cycled and going. Thanks for letting me try out your product Brandon

Have you tried this yet or is it going into the next tank? If so, how is it going?

KristaD Yeah - I've already started using this product. I know I have a few threads going so it's hard to keep up with. I used the Biohome Filter Media alongside with my cycled Seachem matrix bio-media in my 10G DIY AIO.

I was looking into acans v. micromussa (lords) just a little bit last night, found that both, as well as the echinata that I've been eyeing are all acans.... I've been thinking echinata might be a good option to put front-facing on a big rock.

I've also been eyeing blastos though. In moving in the direction of any of these, which would you say is the fastest grower Nart? Also, how dangerous is a blasto's sting?

There's also different types of blastos too. MerletI blasto and I forget the other name. The difference is one is big and the other is small. Hands down my blastos grew the fastest for me. My blasto has no long stingers. They are really tamed. So you can keep it relatively close to other corals like acans that doesn't have long feeders.

Btw- almost walked out with a Platinum clown...

One can never keep a fish addict away from a fish store.. haha..

In other news, it's finally my turn to borrow the PAR meter from my club! I'm excited to get a reading on the tank and what it puts out

Oh man, wish you had some other lights lying around, over the years that's one thing I really plan on being a master on, lighting, il own a par metre one day, I put that before a MG and a CA test kit . Just something I want to explore in depth badly.

Hahaha Grant. Man, legit PAR meters are expensive. But if that's your thing... I totally get it.

I'll take a pic, do depth measurements and chart out everything.

Worst thing for my coral addiction??? VIP is only 20 minutes away, I can take back roads and avoid traffic, AND they have a most excellent selection and fair prices on foods, dry goods and most other things you need besides the livestock. They even sell the salt for the same price as Amazon, so I have plenty of reasons to go, oh no!

Did someone say field trip??

stella1979 btw - are you looking for something to go infront of your tank 'within your rock structure'? If so, look into the jack o latern lepto. it's an encrusting LPS coral. brightttttt orange. If you are looking for something to go on your sand bed... you really can't go wrong with blastos or acans.

Wouldn't that be fun?

Thank you for reading my mind Nart. Yes, I am looking for some thing's to go on the front of the rock structure, to encrust, or somehow cover up the forward facing rock. I tried hard to get some lepto during the crazy sale, and locally, I've only seen it in toxic green. I would love to get some in orange! However, I'm as indecisive as ever... there is a caveat of course. To be continued on my own thread so as to not write a book on yours.

My tank is just a clutter right now so that's why I haven't really taken pics of it. Low-key embarrassed showing it to you all. Many of the coral placements aren't ideal... so yeah...

That's totally how I feel about mine. I just don't know how to rearrange!

Worst think that ever happened to me- eBay!

Girl, I feel you. Not just with fish either ... I recently bought my son some legos ... only 5 boxes ... roughly 26 lbs or so.

And when I buy corals I always feel like the $40 shipping is thrown away money unless I spend like $150-$200 ... so I always spend too much ... but I have some cool corals!

stella1979 ... Melissa, huh? So who is Stella? I've totally named you Stella and refer to you as that! lol

I just use an emulator on my PC and have been playing NES, SNES and N64(I actually own one though) for years still. It would be nice to play using the actual controllers though!

Whoot. Just got mine from the long line...
Here's the games on it.
IMG_8381.JPG

Now back to work... whomp whomp. The wife plays games too. So we'll be playing all weekend haha

Yeah - my friend also built me an emulator to play the classic Nintendo as well, but definitely not the same as playing on the original controllers. Good controllers are expensive by itself.
Can't wait to surprise the wife.

That's a great list actually! I'm surprised Final Fantasy III and Secret of Mana made it on there, but they were probably the best RPGs on SNES. The Final Fantasy games are my most favorite series by far. I'm kind of obsessed. The nice thing about the emulator is that you get access to basically every nintendo game ever released. Even the Japanese versions and fans have also made translated versions of some of the best games. My most favorite part of the emulator is that you can pause/save a game at any moment, so there's no starting levels over or having to write down codes or anything. It's especially nice before hard boss fights, so you can restart from a save point right at the boss if you lose. I can't wait to see what games you two get sucked into first!

Nart yeah, I've been using an old PS3 controller, so it's somewhat similar to a NES controller at least.

That's awesome! Well I'm not LJC and 6780 isn't my birthday. Close though. My wife is LJ and I am C (or CJ), so it's sort of our monogram. She was born in 67 and I in 80. When we finally got high speed internet in our area (had to deal with wifI for ever!) we set up the email as that and I've used it as log ins all over. Just sort of stuck!

I totally had one of those! Albeit after it was nearly obsolete ... we never got things when they came out. But I wasted too many hours of my life on that thing!

Sweet!!! Big Mario and Zelda fan right here.

I loved Zelda but I'm not sure if I had the Super Nintendo version or just the gold regular one.

Do you still like having them? I was thinking about a pair for me.

Went to a couple of fish stores in Lincoln today but didn't see what I wanted. I have a couple of trips coming up so I may have the fish store in Omaha order them for me. One of the two fish stores I went to today told me that a pistol shrimp could break a tank. I won't be going back. The other had aiptasia and other things in their coral frags. I wasn't impressed with that either.

I can speak for my Randall Pistol shrimp and Yasha Goby yeah. I love them. Model citizens and my favorite tank inhabitants. I turn pumps off during feeding and they know when to come out of their burrow for food. Stay away from tiger pistol shrimps, I heard it's a hit or miss with them in terms of killing snails/hermits in your tank.

Baha. It's a myth about them breaking glass. Maybe a really big specie mantis shrimp and if the tank had a very thin/weak glass it maybe could.

I knew it was a myth, you know it's a myth. Shouldn't a guy who said he has worked at the fish store since 2009 also know?

The other store had a gorgeous anemone they called a rose anemone. It had long tentacles and I got to watch it move around the tank. The center area was the size of my fist. The employee said it was a type of condI anemone but I briefly looked it up and had trouble finding info. Since I want to make sure that any anemone I get would host my clowns and I don't want it to eat my orchid dottyback I passed,

Tank goodness I had my phone and can look things up quickly. Could've come home with A yellow box fish!

Can't wait to see your par results!

What a full weekend. I was able to do various testing with the Apogee's Full Spectrum PAR meter.
I just need to condense the data and multiply everything by 1.32 according to their website and my clubs advice.

Let me make everything neat and I'll post the data in the lighting section.

stella1979 we did play Nintendo, it was too much fun, along with a bunch of other games. But we ended up going to the gun show right down the road and was caught up there for 5 hours.. and $800 less in our pocket lol. Also got some range time in too.

Never knew you was into guns nart, but not much of a market for them here lol. Cant wait for your par meter results. You should put some pics of the gun show on the pm chat, I've got some experience but probably not used anything as fun as what you would have.
