Cheese & rice.... took me long enough to find this one!

Sorry to hear about the yellow line goby. Looking sweet though Nart! Can't wait to see how everything settles in after all the waiting is done.

Oh. Also forgot.. the lights I think didn't ship well or the guy lied about the lights being "flawless". There's a buzzing sound coming from the AI leds be the fan rattles. Compared it to my AI Prime Lights.. definitely something is wrong with it. I even tried taking it apart to clean. No deuce. I've contacted AI's customer support... so let's see how good they are in standing behind their product.

Nart the goby could have been old or oldish and had a bad life being exposed to petco water and other such things, I class those as one of the risky spends as they have a short life span of a year any way, and you never know what your getting with them. Also I'm liking your plans for the future, I think you should keep the 10 for ever. I plan on owning one of those im10's one day.

Yeah ... I don’t think I could put as much time and energy into a tank just to sell it all off in a year!

stella1979 cheese and rice! Totally stealing that! Mother of pearl is usually my go to but I like that one! Lol

So sad news. The yellow lined goby passed away yesterday. Not quite sure why either. I really liked the little guy.

Grant, get that 32 going!
emoji6.png

Culprit, no. I decided not to go with carpeting corals on the bottom just because it'll make it hard for me to sell the tank when it comes time to break it down. I'll be moving in a year or so and I plan to sell all my tanks and most of the equipment except the lights. Going to use the money to buy a 60-90 gallon cube tank with a sump and all that to go in my future home

Oh I'm sorry that's so sad!

That makes sense. If I was you though... I would keep the IM10 or the IM20 and sell the other one when you move. They're both small enough that if you could put one in your room and then have your big tank out in the living area. That's going to be sad to see all that stuff go ops:. Are you going to sell all the corals?

I know.... right! I can't imagine how Nart might safely move the tank, but also, surely the furniture is going? I've been secretly hoping that he will find a way to keep some of his nano stuff.

Not sure how far you are moving but I moved the ENTIRE Reef setup and mixing station and all accessories in the bed and cab of our truck and my dad’s small trailer. It was about 4 hours away and I’d say maybe 6 hours from unplug to plug in. We moved the corals in a large rubbermade bin and the rocks in 5 gal buckets. Fish and shrimp in buckets. When I got home I simply put a heater and pump in the bin and put the stuff from buckets into a 10 and 20 gallon tank with heaters and powerheads. They actually lived in this temporary housing for like 2-3 weeks I think. Some of the corals I think might have been even longer. Hard to remember now.

Anyway ... think about shipping times. Surely you could at the very least, pack everything in coolers for a day and use buckets and such when necessary.

It'll be a cross country move back to California. We'll most likely rent for a short duration, save up, and buy a house. So most likely during that time I'll have to take a break from Reefing. Since I don't want to set-up a tank just to break it down again for another move. I'll see what I can keep, but I've been so excited on a slightly bigger set-up, with a underneath the tank sump. Also, if I sell most of my stuff, I'll have enough money to fund the new build. Which I am already planning out. Not extremely big, but at least a 60 gallon with a sump at around 75% the size of the display. Then go the route of no water changes, and utilizing Triton tests and dosing to replenish the trace minerals.

We'll see though... plans can change.

As for the corals... I really want to keep some of the corals that I started out with. I might try to get my private seller or local reefer to care for it till I am ready and have them ship it to me. The rest of the corals I will most likely sell.

Also, just something worth mentioning. When we moved from California to Virginia, we did it in 1 personal vehicle and 1 24' U-Haul ourselves. So we each drove across country for hours and hours a day... we did some sight-seeing but it wasn't very enjoyable as the driving was beyond tiring and stressful. Truck drivers were rude and tried to run me off... Wind gusts trying to kick off the U-Haul. Anyways, when we move back this time we'll just pay for a company to do everything for us... and we'll just take 1 small car to enjoy the road trip back to California instead and do lots of sight-seeing.

No water changes? That's cool! I guess if you have an turf mat and stuff and a big refugium in part of the sump it would work really well! That sounds like lots of fun haha.

I can for sure see that. I bet someone would for sure keep them for you.

That sounds super stressful. I bet hiring someone will be a lot more enjoyable!

Oh yeah ... big move! Where are you now again? You could just take a detour through Arkansas and drop everything off with me!

Hahaha... That is true too LJC

So AI reached out to me, and I just got off the phone with them. Their customer service seems promising. I told them I hear buzzing sound and not sure if there's anything wrong with the fan. At first they thought it was just the fan so I could order a replacement part for that. But after explaining it to them a bit more they told me to go head and send the unit in for service. The service is typically no cost if it's under warranty and if it's outside of warranty they said they'll offer customers at a discount for replacement parts. Turn-around for servicing usually takes 1-2 days upon receiving the unit. I am going to go ahead and send in the AI Prime lights to have them take a look at it just in case.
If they go through if this... they'll earn a life long customer.

Also tried dropping the Picasso clown in the IM25. But into the breeder box. Both my clowns started pecking at the box non-stop. So mayyyyybe I won't drop the Picasso into the IM25 lol

Little guy still has not figured it out

IMG_8636.JPG

Closer pics of the small RBTAs. I love the fact that the bubble still remains. I think the guy at this LFS was telling the truth.

Chaeto growth is craZy in this tank too

Remind me please... What did the LFS guy say about BTA bubbles?

Nart
  • Thread Starter
  • #61
Stella - the guy was saying how some RBTAs remain a true bubble tip due to its genetic strand. Some RBTAs will just stretch out instead. I personally like the bubbles on anemones, plus, less chance of the tentacles killing nearby corals lol

  • #62
Mail me one of those ! All mine lost there bubbles once they settled in, I do believe there is a strand that keeps them and you have it, just look how uniform the bubbles are on yours. I want one.

Man. I wish I could Grant. Propagate and share it! But yeah, I have yet to see this RBTA not have a bubble. It's really interesting. I hope this RBTA splits once it goes into the IM10 so the whole tank can be filled with it. I might hold off on the zoas on the branches.

Man those rbtas are so pretty! Poor little guy needs some help - mabye give him a picture like you did the other clowns ?
That cheato is growing like a weed. You should sell all the cheato you take out on ebay! I actually just checked and there was one post for some cheato for like $15! Do most LFS's sell cheato?

Yep. Chaeto is a good money maker! I sell my freshwater plants on eBay ... I wish my chaeto would finally take off ...

KristaD awww.... they aren't pairing up? I personally would just physically pair them up. I've once had to net my pistol goby and coaxed it near where the pistol shrimp was hiding.
Ain't nobody got 1 year for them to figure things out with each other lol.
