NaNoWriMo time!

I can't believe no one beat me to this thread! I am ninja!

Anywho...who's doing NaNoWriMo this year?! I'm going to try (again), but no guarantees with my horse, my full-time job, and working on the local fine arts association's production of "A Christmas Carol" this year.

So, I have this pretty cool idea for a story, but I can't think of a name for it for the life of me! Anyone want to help?

Here's the basic premise of the story:
It's a story about a British female assassin who works for a secret organization most of her life only to find out that that same organization is the reason she was an orphan at 16. She then starts a campaign to bring down the organization because she knows they will never let her go willingly and she wants revenge for the murders of her parents. Mixed up in it are a British MI6 agent (and MI6 in general) and an American CIA agent (who has kind of gone rogue). The central "theme" to the novel is going to be trust--knowing who you can trust, earning trust, etc.

So, bring on the ideas!

Also, use this thread to tell us about what you're going to write, or even as a sounding board about frustrations with writing. If you need help working through a scene, naming a character, getting a character out of a jam...anything! Post it here and your fellow writers will try their best to help (right, guys?!)!

I have no idea what this even is, but it sounds like fun! I'll have to do some thinking and perhaps post something useful in this thread XD

NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month. A whole month dedicated to novel writing. There's a "competition" (you compete against yourself) to write 1,667 words on a new piece of writing (can't use an already-established work) in the month of November.

Here's the website for it:

I think I'm going to call my novel "Fool's Trust."

Well Paige, I'm sure you'll get more useful suggestions for names than this, but.... "Orphaned Assassin" or maybe "Valid Revenge" or maybe even something more bizzare like "Trust Thy Assassin" are some that popped into my head.

The plot sounds fantastic no matter what you name it and I'm really hoping to have the opportunity to dive into your novel once you've crafted it to completion. Hmmm, you wouldn't need an unofficial proof-reader, would ya? Hehehehe

Edit: Awe see, while I'm sitting here thinking, you already found a name. Probably already found an "unofficial proof reader" toooo, huh....

Toosie, you can be my "official" unofficial proof-reader! I don't have one yet.

Here's the "official" synopsis I put on the NaNoWriMo site:
A British female assassin working for the top secret criminal organization, Strasidlo, becomes disenchanted with the organization when she finds out that the organization she works for was responsible for the murders of her parents when she was sixteen. She sets out on a campaign to bring down Strasidlo, partly because she's tired of being an assassin, but she knows they'll never let her go willingly, and partly because she wants revenge for the deaths of her parents. Along the way, she becomes entangled with a dashing MI6 agent and a disavowed CIA agent.

I'm not a huge fan of the name I picked for the criminal organization (it's Czech for "spectre or ghost"). All the good criminal organization names have been taken, though! SPECTRE, Quantum, Anarchy 99...

And here's the excerpt:
I wasn't always an assassin. Once, I had a life that any teenager would dream of. My parents were part of the landed gentry of England, my many-times great-grandfather having been rewarded richly for his service to King Richard in the Crusades. My father was also a well-known engineer, preferring to create a name for himself rather than rely on the prestige of his ancestors. Anything my heart could have desired was mine: horses, fast cars, lessons in whatever struck my fancy that week, the best schools. I even had two parents who loved me very much and spent as much time as they could with me, as opposed to my friends, whose parents were too busy with their social lives to care much what their children did.
I was happy. I was loved. And all that changed the night I turned sixteen.

Yeay!!!! I'm an official unofficial proof-reader!!!! I couldn't be happier!!! And really I couldn't. It's too cool.

I like the name and how you derived it. It makes sense. The story already has a sad and haunting tone to it, and it makes me like the name you chose even more. It just seems to fit.

Well you only have 27 days left, so you better get writing!

Huh. Never seen it and hadn't heard of it until you posted that, Snore. I don't have TV (which makes me sad because the season premier of Bones is tonight!).

Okay, just read the blurb about Nikita on IMDB.com. I have to say yes and no, on them being alike. My story doesn't involve the main character wanting to stop them from recruiting anyone else. All she cares about is revenge, really. Definitely not nearly as noble as Nikita sounds. lol

I can't bring myself to do it, this year. Too much going on in my life. On the other hand, I am currently in the middle of a short story that I'm hoping to submit by the end of the month, and have a previous nano project that I'm continuing to work on, in an effort to write something publishable. ;D

sirdarksol, I have more going on this year than I did last year, but I decided to do it anyway.
