Nano Fowlr Vs Reef

I would say go with the long if you can still have space for the ATO. The reason for the long is to allow for more partitions in the future if you'd like. If it were me, I'd want to maximize the space in the sump for a large refugium, with lots of floor space for rubble and housing pods. But, I would also like to have the option to use a filter sock and house a skimmer if I wanted one. Consider the return pump and the heater too. It's just my opinion, but if I had a sump, I would appreciate a long one.

That was my thinking too. I just wasn't sure if there was more benefit to the height than I was aware of.

Well, I can't think of any, but it's been many, many years since I had a sump. I also should say that my 1 of my dream fish requires loads of pods and the other requires a mature sandbed around 3-4 inches deep. I've found that even a small refugium has been fabulous for hosting pods and nutrient export, which directly correlates to the dream stock, so I'm probably biased.
