Mystery Snails Hanging Out At The Top Of The Tank?

A bunch of my mystery snails are hanging out literally in the middle of my tank and the surface.... It sort of looks like they're playing... But I'm not sure? The water perimeters are testing normal, they're getting plenty of veggies and goodies, and there's nothing new in the tank. Are they oxygen seeking? Not happy with the water? Just playing? I've never seen mystery snails do this before.

 

Are they floating? Sometimes they do that, it's just a little air in the shell. They also seem to like eating particles from the surface of the water (I have witnessed mine doing it a few times).

While it seems like totally normal behavior, you could always check your parameters to be sure everything is ok. Mysteries actively climbing g out of the water (who aren't laying eggs), can point to bad water quality.

 

Sometimes they float for fun, and they breathe air. Being at the top of the tank is completely normal. If they float for a couple of days straight then you have a problem. It could even just be a tad hot, those are apple snails, like mine, and may just want 18-25C water.

They need to be between 24-27 C. 18 is WAY to cold. Also snails line up at the top of the tank at the waterline when they are cold. This is a natural instinct because in the wild the top of the water is warmer from the sun. I don't know what they’re doing, but if you get some pics of their foot/ operculum I could look for signs of illness. They might just be playing though

 

Really? I read they were cold water snails. I'm sorry about that. Thank god I keep mine with my Betta then at 25. XD Again, sorry!

 

I have 10 of these. So cute. Anywho, I wake up a lot to a pile of them at the top of the tank all the time. They also do this on the gravel floor, even on plants. They will all pile on each one. Guess they are bonding. Pretty sure it is normal.
