Mystery Snails Floating

Two of my three mystery snails are floating at the top of the tank, and the other is on the bottom not moving. All the fish are fine. I know snails are weird, but is this a little too weird? Is something wrong with them?

Usually I'd say this is normal for mystery snails, but after watching my last mystery die last week from (likely) old age, I'm now not going to be so dismissive. Mysteries don't last forever, and there will be a point when it becomes 'too weird'. They will slow down noticeably (uhm, yes, snails can go slower, but no I meant lethargy), float a lot, and hang out their shells more often. At this point they can bounce back somewhat, but they'll be likely on borrowed time.

On the other hand it could just be normal. But eitherway I don't think there's much you can do but keep them as happy as can be!

When I kept Mystery Snails in the past, I never had a Mystery Snail last longer than an year. Once they reached about golf ball size, they near the end of their lifespans in my experience.

My mystery snail is quite active and moves really fast.
I hope your snails feel better.

This lil turd likes to uproot the freshly new planted miniature dwarf hair grass.

I think I read somewhere that on average, mysteries live 12-18 months at 25°C. Mine live 4-8 months (from eggs) at 29°C (tropics, not much I can do). There's also the age factor when you purchase them from somewhere else, you don't know how old they are, and what temp water they were kept in...so there's that.

Pond snails...

I had a million of them in my tank before. They carpeted the gravel and plants. They reproduce asexually and I had so much people who saw my tank were either amazed or concerned lol

I had so much pond snails that they killed one of my Mystery Snails by crawling inside the Mystery Snail's shell, not allowing the Mystery Snail to come out.

They are also very tough Snails. I kept a small group (unintentionally) of them in cold water in a dirty mop bucket and they managed to live in there for a month....

Edit: if you reference OlgaMolga's picture she posted, there is a single pond snail on the Mystery Snail's shell. Just for a point of reference of these tough Snails.

For some strange reason my horned nerites outlast both my nerites and mysteries. I have mine for nearly 3 years now (!). As for other snails, I haven't kept any other, so I can't say. Alternately, you can have a breeding group of mysteries, that way you'll always have a population with you

I have Pond snails too (I'm pretty sure thanks to the guy I bought the frogbit from on eBay). I just picked 3 out this evening while I was doing my weekly water change.

And I'm happy to report that the mystery that was on the bottom not moving has now moved to the other end of the tank, and one of the floaters is crawling on the back of the tank. The black one is still at the top, but it's right by the filter, and blends in, so I'm not sure what's going on with it.

I'm going to bed. I'll see what's going on with them tomorrow,
