Mystery Snails Eat Live Plants

I feed my snails blanched veggies every 2~3 days, and the occasional sinking pellet. Instead of eating algae in their spare time they decided to go for my water wisteria
They have been put in jail (breeding box) for their crimes, and given daily prison food.





I’m trying not to overfeed because I have some hydra in my tank (waiting on planaria zero).

It might be dying now after the snail chewed off its leaves. They’re perfectly capable of eating healthy leaves if they wanted. The middle leaf is very green and healthy but it has bite marks all over lol.

 

sometimes mine nibble on my plant. they start with a dying part then munch into the live part.

 

Also Mystery Snails that have been given veggies can easily start confusing plants that look like their regular veggie diet. And wisteria looks like some yummy lettuce to me lol.

Try not to be too hard on the poor blind dearies. (Fun fact: snails are pretty close to blind and rely heavily on their other senses mostly smell and touch)

 

I've found that aquarium snails in general (I don't have much experience with mystery snails though), typically tend to eat the 'softer', more fragile plants, and not things like anubias etc. I think they're just easy to eat, so they do lol

Yup I see the hydra. I got rid of the hydra by cutting back on food and killing the hydra myself.
