Mystery snail shell turning black

Hello,

I’ve had this mystery snail for just over a month now, and I noticed a bit of black on the side of the shell that seems to progressively be spreading. I’m not sure if it’s the actual shell or something growing on top of it. He’s grown a lot since I’ve gotten him, and all seems to be going well.I do water changes, use a conditioner, feed calcium, lettuce and algae wafers. Has anyone else experienced this/know what is going on?

Update: It appears to be on top of the shell. I’m able to very gently scratch some of it off. It doesn’t bother him, and he’s still acting normal.

take him out and gently use a toothbrush and see if it comes off you did say some scraped off with your nail br gentle, she's got 6½" of water?
