Mystery Snail or Apple!?

Hey everyone I’m having some trouble figuring out whether I have Mystery Snails or Apple snails. There’s so much misinformation on the net so I decided to turn here. I have had an Ivory, a Gold and now a blue snail. I never really noticed if the ivory and gold snails were eating my plants or not but today I seen my blue golf ball size snail eating fresh crisp frogbit! To me they all look the same and my blue female also lied eggs 2 weeks ago. Can Mystery and Apple snails mate? The ivory and gold ones I had were a mating pair and gave birth to 200ish little guys. If the gold and ivory snails were plant eaters wouldn’t my entire tank have been eaten? I’m sorry for the confusion but I’d like to have another batch but not if the blue ones babies are going to eat plants which they will. Soooo lost! Anything helps at this point! Thank you

There's alot of information thats misleading on the net about Apple snails and mystery snails. I see your from Canada which takes out the factor about them being a legal species so its possible you can buy either one.
In the US, some states have strict laws making the apple snail illegal.
Apple snails can grow to 6 inches. They also have a tube that they use to breathe above water. Its a defense to hide from birds. I don't see that tube on your 1st pic which leads me to believe its a mystery snail.
Sorry thats the only input I have lol.

Those are mystery snails.. typically you will see brown apple snails being passed off as mystery snails.. the color morphs you have are generally safe. The apple snails typically sold as mystery snails are usually Florida Apple snails or Chanelled Apple snails. Of course the mystery snail is a type of apple snail as well but it is a specific breed that (usually) cannot eat plant matter unless it's soft enough, ie. Decaying.

They are eating your frogbit because it's actually a really common problem to have with that plant. Snails find frogbit irresistible. So you will probably see them trying to eat it from time to time. It shouldn't be an issue as frogbit grows pretty quickly

They are mystery snails, I have three ivory mystery snails just like the one you have. Mine have laid eggs all over the place but I have yet to see them hatch. There are even a few eggs attached to the shell of one the snails. The eggs where laid a good two weeks ago, so I don't know if they will hatch.

Jo and thanks for the reply! My blue snail definitely has one of those tubes! At first I though it was a **** lol! So does that mean mystery snails don’t have a tube? How do they get their air from the top then? Thanks again!
