Mystery Snail Nocturnal Or Shy?

Yesterday I brought home a new mystery snail (I named him Adrian). After acclimating him, I set him on top of the driftwood. The first thing he did was crawl underneath it, bury partway into the gravel, and stay there all day. This morning, I saw him crawling on one of the plants, but then moved to the back of the aquarium and has barely moved since.

Are mystery snails normally nocturnal, or is he just still not used to his new home yet?

Mystery snails are certainly interesting little critters. From what we've seen with ours, they're pretty much always on the move... unless they decide they want to nap for a day or so. Mysteries are known for some weird behavior like floating around the tank or climbing all the way to the top of a tank only to plummet back down. Sounds like he's just taking some time to explore and adjust to his new home Only reason to worry is when they get "the smell" signifying they're dead. You'll know it when you sniff it, believe me. Hope this helped!

They stay still quite often, and act quite weird. He is just getting acclimated and they don’t move constantly

I had a random snail with a plant (certainly not the invasive bread like rabbit type) about a cm across dark black. any way he is very nocturnal, as I don't see him for days and then he is there and then gone again. (I did think my Yo yo loach had eaten him but he swims past and doesn't even bother him)

Sometimes I think they cover a mile in the tank in an hour.

Other times I wonder if they died when they don’t move for hours.

Watching them climb in the plants, dropping to the substrate, then climbing again is very cool.

I’ve had nerites bury themselves in the sand for days, then reappear.

Snails are interesting and IMO essential to a clean, clear tank.

All of my tanks have at least 1 Mystery and 1 nerite.

The mystery snails also seem to keep my pest snails in check since they compete for the same food sources.

I've had a mystery snail for about three days now and, while he's pretty shy, he's been moving around and all that.

However, I think that the base part of his shell is beginning to change color (I honestly can't remember if I brought him home like this or if this is a new thing). I checked the water parameters and everything is fine. So does anyone know if this is something to be concerned about?

Snail shells only grow from the lip, it looks like new growth to me. =P
