Hello, my mystery snail did the dreaded jump for joy out of his tank. This isn't my first rodeo with this behavior but this is the first time that the snail wasn't found dead.
The information I have about the incident was that she only had a 3-4 feet jump from her tank to the hardwood floor. I know she wasn't there long because I saw her approximately a half hour before in her tank climbing on the top of the lid. As she is a woman and loves to make clutches I assumed she was merely looking for a spot to lay so I left her alone. As I just said I do have a lid, however, there is a little gap where the filter is where they can get out. I usually attempt to block the hole when I leave the house or know I'm not going to be in my room for a while but this time I didn't because I was simply upstairs and hadn't planned to be up there as long as I was. I found her on the floor after that half hour in a puddle of water with a crack in the top of her shell and the shell remains in the shell. I immediately picked her up and she did leak on me from the movement of her trap door so that's how I was able to confirm she was alive. I first picked out any shell remamnets I could see in her shell with some tweezers, although she didn't like this it had to be done. Then I used a nail file to smooth out sharp edges so she wouldn't get cut if she tried to come out. Then I placed her in her tank and watched. She didn't move and it is now a day later and although after watching for really long Ill see her move inside very slightly she has not come out of her shell. This morning I did see some goo coming from her little opening in the shell. I tried to convince her to come out with some algae pellets but she has not yet come out she put her antenna out once as I witnessed but than put it back in and hasn't moved from the spot I left her last night. My question; is there something else I should be doing or checking to make sure she's okay to come out? Is there a reason why she might not be coming out? I know she's alive but she hasn't come out and I'm afraid that if she doesn't get herself out and eat within the next couple of days she will die. Her crack isn't the worse I've seen but it isn't the best thing in the world either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, her name is big mama and she is just that a big mama! I don't want to see her suffering
