Mystery Snail Has Crack In Shell

My snail, Gary Busey has a crack running longways on his shell. I just noticed it tonight. My water parameters are good, PH 7-8. I've had all 3 for between month -- month and a half. I supplement calcium with cuttlebone. I'll add some pics. His new shell growth looks good and healthy and he has actually grown more than I expected since I've had him. I'm very, very worried for him. I'm not certain if I should try to repair or it will be okay without the repair?? Any advice appreciated. The first pic is from when I first brought him home:

Pics from earlier tonight. I had to add him enjoying his green bean. (They are his absolute favorite!!))

Gary Busey is on the left in this pic, you can see the beginning of the crack a little

Is the crack all the way through the shell to where you can see his flesh. Becase I had one a few months back that had a crack pretty similar and I tried to feed him more cuddle bone and it started to patch it’s self up and now you can just see a white line where it used to be

Yes, you can start to see some of his flesh. I had been putting the cuttlebone pieces just in my filter, but tonight I've placed a couple pieces in the tank for them. I also put a piece on their plate when they get their veggies. I'm glad it turned out well for your guy and thank you!!

Hey this is what I call “running shell damage” because the crack continues as the snail grows. The good news is it looks like it is getting better not worse and it is a mild one. If all the water parameters are good this indicates a nutritional deficiency. The most likely cause is not enough protein/ meat. They should be eating a meaty based pellet or wafer 4-5 days a week and veggies or algae 2-3 days a week. The best one I’ve found is HikarI bottom feeder wafers in the orange bag. Because this has meat as well as veggies and algae they can eat this 7 days a week and get their full nutritional needs so any additional veggies is a bonus. Also cuttle bone is not usually effective. You will be much better off buying calcium powder (in the reptile section) and using that instead. Especially because there is damage already. That is not anything serious so as long as the water stays clean and snails are getting meat it should stop continuing. You can read more about in my care guide pinned to the top of the snail section!

A world of thanks Pringlethesnail!! WHY did I NOT think of the calcium powder? (Kicking myself lol) Right now I'm giving shrimp pellets, algae thins, green beans, and cucumber. My Gary Busey going after a green bean is really something to see. Ha. I'm going to have to find the HikarI bottom feeder wafer or order it for my babies. You have really put my mind at ease!! I never dreamed these snails would be my favorite of my tank, but they have all captivated my heart. Funny, isn't it? But their personalities tho.....
