Mystery snail Escapee found

I found my mystery snail Baby behind my tank. He must’ve escaped through the filter hole in the lid.

Baby was out of water for over 24 hours. He’s still closed up though, so I put him in a separate cup of tank water and I’m hoping for the best

This is the drop he must’ve took I’m so worried.

I don’t mean to come off rude but if he’s not already gone he will be soon in that small cup with no oxygen and barely enough water to cover him. Others might disagree but I would put him back in the tank

He’s alive! Yay! I have put him back in the tank. he is slowly peeking out and then quickly retracting into his shell. Normal snail behavior!

Yep, he landed on carpet. He hasn’t moved but he’s definitely alive. I’m sure he’s still adjusting.

Baby is moving around now which is great, but he appears to have a crack in his shell. Hopefully it will heal because it is where new shell growth will be?

I think he’ll be ok. I’ve had nerites before that had way worse cracks and they’ve been fine

awesome, thanks

Okay, I’m concerned. This morning I actually HEARD Baby fall behind the tank again. I of course picked him up and dropped him back into the water. Why would he be escaping? I tested the water and its 0,0,30. The nitrates shouldn’t be enough to make him climb out right? Besides, there’s studies showing that it’s almost non toxic to fish?

How long has the tank been running? 4 months
Does it have a filter? Yes, HOB
Does it have a heater? Yes
What is the water temperature? 76F
What is the entire stocking of this tank? (Please list all fish and inverts.)
6 small angels, 6 kuhlis, 9 corys, 1 bn, 1 clown pleco, 4 mystery snails, a couple nerites
Maintenance
How often do you change the water? every couple of days
How much of the water do you change? 10%
What do you use to treat your water? API Stress coat
Do you vacuum the substrate or just the water? substrate when needed

*Parameters - Very Important
Did you cycle your tank before adding fish? Yes, used seeded media
What do you use to test the water? Tetra 6 in 1 test strips and Tetra ammonia test strips
What are your parameters? We need to know the exact numbers, not just “fine” or “safe”.

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 30
pH: 6.5 (low for snails yes, but all other snails are doing good)

Feeding
How often do you feed your fish? every day
How much do you feed your fish? what the angels can eat in 30 seconds and 12-15 sinking wafers
What brand of food do you feed your fish? Hikari, Seachem
Do you feed frozen or freeze-dried foods? Occasionally

Illness & Symptoms
How long have you had this fish? 4 or 5 days
How long ago did you first notice these symptoms? Last night
In a few words, can you explain the symptoms? Snail keeps escaping and falling behind the tank
Have you started any treatment for the illness? No
Was your fish physically ill or injured upon purchase? No
How has its behavior and appearance changed, if at all? Appearance is fine, he keeps trying to escape the tank

Explain your emergency situation in detail. (Please give a clear explanation of what is going on, include details from the beginning of the illness leading up to now)
I got Baby, a baby mystery snail on Tuesday and he was fine for the first day but last night I found him behind the tank. I put him immediately back in and he was fine and started moving around a bit later, but this morning I actually heard him fall behind the tank again and now I’m very concerned as to why he is trying to escape. No one seems to be picking on him besides occasionally getting bumped around by excited corys. He should be getting food as all the other snails are and are doing great. My nitrates are a tad high as I’m overstocked atm but no one else in the tank seems to be bothered by it.

30 is a little high. I'd do a partial water change and then plug up that hole somehow so he can't get through it. Nitrates should be 20 or below.

Instead of changing out 10% of the water every few days you my want to start doing just one big water change each week. With your stocking level that also includes 2 pleco's I highly recommend you change out no less than 50% of the water each week. I have to think there is something in the water that doesn't agree with this little guy. Bigger water changes may dilute whatever it is enough to stop this little guy from wanting to escape from it.

I do have to ask. Are you running anything such as crushed coral to get the pH up? Yours is a pretty low pH for snails. Is it this low straight out of the tap? If not and it drops after adding it to the tank CC will stabilized up to the same level as your tap water.

It’s even lower out of the tap, around 5.8. I’m not doing anything specific like cc to get it up but my other snails seem to be fine with it.

Hopefully they will continue to be fine and you can plug the hole to keep this little guy in the tank.
