Mystery snail escaped - for how long are they okay?

I found one of our mystery snails on top of the glass top this morning, shell dry and trap door shut. I’m trying to get an idea of what to expect. It opened up slightly after putting it back in the water and now it’s closed tightly, but it hasn’t moved anywhere yet. I’ve seen plenty of threads about snails that escape, fall, etc., but I’m trying to see if anyone has experience with how long it might take for the snail to get back to normal if it does survive. Could it potentially take a few days, even, for it to be moving around like normal? It was out of water for a max of 10 hours.

They can live up to hours. Snails are really hardy, more than they are given credit for. I would just wait awhile and take a good look at it after a few days.

Thanks. Glad to hear there’s hope! Will keep monitoring it.

Now I just need to close off the couple of inches by the filter intake tube where it escaped so it doesn’t happen again!

Haha well my mystery snail did the exact same thing. I couldn't find him in my 20g tank for a whole day. Still worried, but thinking he was just somehow hiding (he was a bigg'n), I didn't think he somehow got out of the tank. When it came to the end of the day and I still hadn't seen him, I finally looking around and under the tank.
Lo and behold, he was on the floor dry as dirt and trap door shut. Turns out the little butthead jumped ship by accident and had been sitting out all that time! I immediately put him back in water and long story short, he was okay after that. He stook his long trunk out as far as he could and was soaking up all the water. I mean, I would too if I was him.

These guys are definitely crazy! Glad to hear yours is okay, too. Mine was peeking out of his trap door for 12 hours to rehydrate before he started doing anything.

I only have a few inches’ gap by my HOB intake tube and they’re working their way out there somehow. Now I’ve got masking tape over it

They really are haha. I don't know why he would do that, it's not like the water parameters were bad or anything. He hasn't done it since, so that's good. Hopefully your won't either!

Same thing happened to me ! This morning feeding a gang and noticed where’s jellybean? ( my mystery snail) finally found him outside the tank. He must of been there I don’t know for how long . Freaked out a bit then grabbed a container and put some tank water . Then I noticed some movement . I didn’t want to add him to the tank right after finding him just incase he was dead. After noticing his tube coming out to check out the scene I added some food and later back into the tank . This was the first time he has done this . Glad he’s ok !! Sneaky buggers they are !

if your water parameters are okay, maybe hes not being fed enough? IMO snails will only escape if somethings wrong.
