Mystery snail eggs and poop

My mystery snail is laying eggs and pooping like crazy. She’s laid 7 bunches of eggs in 11 days and constantly has poop on her side. Today she had a huge string of poop that looked about 14” long. My other male snail never has that much poop. Is this normal or is something wrong?

She’s a busy woman! If she has the energy to lay 7 clutches in 11 days she must be eating a LOT, which means pooping a lot too. Snails in general are poop machines. If it looks like the normal color and consistency it’s probably not much to worry about.

I'm not sure about the "egg" part, but for the pooping, I think you just need to control how much they eat. What do they eat? Do you provide food for them, or do they "find" food?

Cause my mystery snails POOPED a lot when I first got them (had a fungi problem with my driftwood); after that was solved, mystery snails stopped being poop machines

I just feed them some spinach 3-5 days

I read that you are supposed to allow them to have food available at all times, I don’t want the water messed up so I just give them something like a quarter size of food a day. Is that too much?

I feed them algae wafers, various leftover goldfish food, and whatever my betta doesn’t eat. I haven’t been consistent in feeding fresh veggies because they don’t seem to eat them.

I don’t think it’s a fungus or something because it’s only one of them and it started around the time she started laying.

Im my opinion, that's already a lot. The mystery snails already have food you can't see in the tank, feel the decors and gravels, there's always some sort of things growing there that they'll eat. I feed my snails sparingly as they eat leftover fish food as well, not to mention, they also eat decomposing plant matter.

But this is just my experience, I've only kept them for a little bit but they're thriving, so I think I'm doing things right; I may be wrong though

Plus- I think it's best to let them find "natural food" in the tank because one, it'll help clean your tank (instead of them waiting for the food you provide), and two, less poop.

My snails even go to the water surface to steal some of my fishes' fish food XDD it's amusing seein them walk on the water surface or create a funnel with their foot.

Would it be better to cut back per day amount or days per week fed?
I had my male climb onto the water when I first got him but I thought that because was he was dead or dying. Lol
In the beginning they were really lethargic, but when I upped the food and they became a lot more active.

To be honest, I think it's up to your preference, especially for your own unique snails too. For me I would cut back the days I feed them as it is less work. And it makes them search for their own food, which MIGHT end up with the snail eating left over food or algae (so cleaner tank).

You could reduce the amount you feed per day, but that's just extra work per day. Snails can go for awhile without food. Do you have live plants? If not, feeding 2-3 days is a good idea. I feed 5-7 days cause mine are gluttons that eat decomposing plants and leftover food anyways.

Mine love blanched spinach, helps them with their shells too!

I have some plants so I guess I could do a little less per day and less days per week, they’re going on the slim fast diet. Lol Thanks for the help.

All those eggs just mean she has a good source of calcium. If they aren't getting enough dietary calcium, mine tend to stop laying for a while so they can use the little calcium they have for their shells.

I don’t really want to do that because it seems kinda cruel to me to purposely withhold something that lets them grow. I was thinking of just separating them if anything. I get a new tank that way too.

I just let mine lay. Lots of calcium in the first is definitely a good thing for snails. I hatch some of the eggs, but I mostly just feed them to my other fish or my turtle if there’s too many.

I was planning on hatching them for my betta to eat because he didn’t eat any of the eggs that were laid underwater. I was trying that with shrimp but he ate them all before they could mate.

My betta doesn't mind shrimps; he's genuinely curious about shrimp actually.

But this time, I'm the problem. I just can't keep shrimp.

My betta was doing great with the shrimp for 2-3 weeks, I even got a picture of him chilling on his leaf with one, and then he went on a murderous rampage and ate one a day until they were all gone. T.T

Awww, they're so cute together XDDD (Btw, your betta looks absolutely amazing, that shiny colour is just wow) Bettas are so beautiful, if only they weren't so unpredictable and aggressive they would be in every tank

I'm hoping the day where my betta goes on a rampage with my ember tetras never come

Thanks. He is very beautiful, if only he wasn’t such a murderer. Lol
Fingers crossed that your betta is and stays nicer to tank mates than mine was. Good luck.
