My Young Female Betta Insists On Resting On Heater. Is This Normal?

I just introduced my juvenile female Crowntail Betta to her 2.5 gallon filtered tank yesterday. She explored a lot yesterday but today she just constantly rests on the heater. It’s worrying me. I’ve never had this problem with my Male Crowntail. Also please note as she grows I plan on moving her to a larger tank 3.5 gallons and then eventually a 5 gallon.

I have noticed that I often see my female bettas around the heater. Not always but often enough. And I have seen them resting on the heater. My tank is usually at about 77F so it is not cold but I guess they like warmer.

My Tank is 80 degrees Fahrenheit at the moment. She has become a little more active as the days progressed. I went out and bought a Zoo Med Betta leaf for her tank. I’m hoping that helps.

it can be normal lol, bettas will rest anywhere they want even if they don't really fit. ive had bettas rest on filters, heaters, floating plants, etc.

I’m glad it’s not uncommon to see. I felt like maybe she just need a place to rest so I bought her a Betta leaf to rest on. I’m hoping that helps her out a bit. She has been more active in the past couple of hours.

Can you post a picture of the tank? It could just be that that’s where she feels safest/is most comfortable for her.

Here is her tank it’s oval shaped which I think I heard somewhere isn’t the greatest. I got the tank and plants as a gift and when I get paid I plan on getting her silk plants like I have for my male Betta. I hope I’m not doing too badly as a Betta keeper. I’m still quite the newbie.

Thank you. I think she will be fine as well.

Has it been constant or did it just start recently? I have a few that go through a phase where they’ll do that.

Yeah I think she likes to rest there because it’s a bit more snug and warm. I got her a leaf bed so hopefully with a bit of training she will like it to rest on as much as my male does.

I just noticed this morning. She came out to eat but went back to resting and hiding by the heater. But for the past couple of hours she’s exploring a bit more.

It’ll more than likely stop soon then and maybe just occur occasionally.

My betta always hangs out on the suction cup connected to the heater. It's just a comfy spot for him to rest. I don't think it's anything to worry about. As I'm sure you know, bettas can be lazy so resting for periods of time is pretty normal.
