My South American Tank

I've read the forums for a few years now, but now that our city is under stay at home orders, thought I would post. Going stir crazy.

I've been in fishkeeping since I was a kid, and got into the hobby because of my dad. He always had the most incredible biotopes, but has since left the hobby. I've continued, though my aquariums have been more limited than what I would like due to room/budget (aren't they always!).

Here's my current South American tank. It's been up for about two years now.

- 40 gallons
- Two Finnex 7,000K LEDs
- Fluval canister filter and a HOB filter with peat
- Livestock: three discus (got them when they were around a quarter size, now around 3.5-4", three angelfish. They get along and swim together, but I've accepted it's only a matter of time until they start fighting.
- Plants: Assortment of val, swordplants, and cabomba, need to prune soon, especially the cabomba

I'm moving in a few weeks and will be upgrading this to a 55 gallon. NOT looking forward to it especially given the sensitive fish.

I have another tank with a pair of firemouths and some tetras. They've been around for at least six years now. I can't seem to kick them and they keep breeding (haven't been able to raise the fry successfully though). The male really is a stunner.

My new place has some additional room, so will be setting up a 46 gallon reef tank. Haven't had one for several years after moving to the city, but finally have space to have one. Can't wait for that.

They don't destroy the plants?

What size tank are they in? What plants and tank mates?

They're in a 40 gallon. I have a dozen black phantom tetras and some siamese algae eaters. They dig up plants every now and then. I've only been able to keep swordplants or val with them- bunch plants or anubias they love digging up. They have a few burrows/caves in the corner of the tanks that they've dug out.

Great looking tanks!

I think everyone can relate with being on lockdown! I found myself last week wanting to do a slight tweak to my aquascape. Then a couple hours and a whole new layout happened.

it is a great time to enjoy your fish though!

Do you sell/ship fry?
Right now no, but maybe at some point! Haven't tried before so not sure how well they would ship.

If you'd like to find out, just let me know.

I've shipped guppies without problems, I'd imagine it wouldn't be much different.
