I have fresh water snails in most of my tanks & today one laid a bunch of eggs?
What should I do or expect?
I worry about when the hatch all the fish will eat them!

In that tank I have a Carp & an Upsidedown Cat fish & an Albino Oscar & 5 tuffys & a blue Cichlid.Except for the carp these are very small fish.
Even then the carp is only about 4" long.

I don't have any knowledge about those fish. Are any of them notorious snail eaters?

You can move the clutch of eggs and hatch them in another tank if you have one.

I would move the snail, nevermind the eggs! If you don't have another tank to move them to, I would either a) leave them - they may dry out, they may hatch. If they hatch, they may get eaten as they grow. b) move them to another tank in about a week when it gets ready to hatch. c) remove it and destroy it. This would be your best bet, I think. They are not developed, so you are not killing live snails. I freeze mine and then toss them.

Why destroy them?
I enjoy snails in my tanks & have them in all my tanks?
I do have a small one Gal. tank ( Thank I'm not using no air pump or any filter or anything in it though ) I was considering moving them to..

I say destroy them because thy will only keep coming. If you are prepared to raise 100-200 snaIls then that's fine. A one gallon is too small. If you don't want to destroy them, then just leave them be. They may hatch in a week and a half if they don't dry out.

I think I'll just let them stay where the Mother placed them & see what happens, I only worry about them getting out of the tank & all over the house.
I'd be happy to see most of them to the fish store.

DoNt worry hey won't escape. You should do some reading about the care of apple snails.
Also, is your carp going into a pond in the future? They get insanely huge and are not suitable for even the largest aquariums.

I agree that you should let them be and see what happens. I've had babies hatch with angels and a betta and various other fish. RogueAgent said in another thread that even assassin snails (which eat nuisance snails) will not eat baby Mystery snails (which is what those eggs look like). Do you still have a turtle in that tank? He may eat the babies. But if just a few survive, that will be better than your tank being overwhelmed with hundreds of snail babies. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

No the turtle is in my 60 Gal Tank.
If these survive I'll learn from it & if they get eaten I will also learn from it.

Is that what is in your 10 gal?

I thought this was a 60. And I was being polite then. You can't keep any of your stock in 10 gallons. You should destroy the eggs because they won't grow out properly in a 10.

And assassins will eat baby apple snails, aka , mysteries.

What are assassins & is there a thread on this?
I can always move the snails.
I have no issue with this, it just happens to be the snail laid the eggs in my 10 Gal tank.

Assassin snails. They are a little snail that eats snails. Nevermind that though your stock is REDICULOUS. You can't honestly think all those fish, or even one of them will grow properly much less survive in a 10gal tank? rehome, return, upgrade. Your looking at oh say a couple hundred gallons of water and a pond for the carp.

Your funny, I've had most of these fish living fine in this tank a long time now.

Not funny, actually, most of these fish could live to be 15yrs. old.
Take how long you've had these fish, and subtract it from 5 years: that's approximately how long these fish have to live if you keep them in that tank. Fish emit chemicals, and in high concentrations these chemicals slow down the growth rate of the fish. If there are few fish in a large body of water, these chemicals will remain in low concentrations and the fish will grow up and develop normally. A little high, and the fish may simply turn out smaller. VERY high, and the body's skeleton stops growing while the organs continue, eventually stopping the organs and killing the fish(this is, incidentally, one of the reasons why swim-bladder disease and a mere 5yr. lifespan is so common among carp like Goldfish, they are often too cramped for too long).

Let me ask you a simple question... Who ever said that's where they will stay?
Currently I have 4 tanks going & am always on the look out for further up grades getting bigger & bigger all the time.
so before you start judging me understand I've considered cutting out parts of my homes walls to build bigger tanks & am also looking at the option of build a back yard pond.
When I talk about how they seem to live ok its talking about not attacking each other or dying or anything else..

Remember I said the Carp was the biggest at about 4 inches. & the only reason he is back in the 10 Gal. is because the fish in the bigger tank were mean to him ( he seems very passive compared to the other more aggressive fish I have. ) & I didn't like that so i'm looking for a another larger tank for him..

Communication is 30% what you say and 70% how you say it. By saying "you're funny" you appeared to be dismissing solterian's claim that they needed to be moved, and implying you intended to keep the fish there for the duration of their lives.
And I chime in to try to convince someone what they're doing is harmful to their fish, not to call them names for doing it. Please don't mistake my concern for trying to pick a fight.
I'm pretty sure if you had mentioned from the outset that you knew the tank wasn't big enough and you were looking for a bigger one, nobody would have raised the issue.

I'm always looking to grow bigger, My 60 Gal will soon be about 200 Gal & then as I mentioned I'm seriously considering ripping walls apart in my house for a huge built in tank.

& it goes on & on....

I've been told before on many sites no matter the topics from Off Roading to fish that I'm doing it wrong & someone always has a better way to do it.

You learn to just roll your eyes or .....

Cool! wish my mom would let me do that. ;D On a more serious note, you might consider making that statement your signature, to prevent future panick attacks on the part of well-intentioned individuals.

But wouldn't it be boring if life plateaued, you couldn't get any better at it? And once you figure out how to do it better, you too can turn around and feel superior to the next poor... Just kidding But I edited the quote a little, the site is supposed to be family friendly

ok, enough fun for one night, I'm going to bed.
