My Second Tank Addition!

Very exciting After just having my zebra danios for a few months making sure the tank was stable and cycled, I finally added some more tankmates. They are 7 red venezuelan cories. I knew I wanted a cory and looked around at what the local shop had and my daughter really liked these guys. They seem relatively uncommon, the guy at the store said it was a special order and they're pretty rare to find, but they weren't that expensive ($6 each).

So far they seem to have settled in great, really cute to watch and seem to get along great with the danios. Very active little guys, though they're not really sticking together like I expected, they're just all over the place. They can swim really fast when they spook too, I was surprised.

Can't wait to see them grow up a bit, they're quite tiny now.

Congratulations on the new additions to your family. They are adorable. They will probably settle in and spend time with each other once they get used to their new home.

You may want to keep a close eye on your perimeters since you added so many fish at once.

It's a 38 gallon bowfront, so kinda like a 40 tall if that's even a thing. Looks like these guys get just a hair over 2" so should be a good fit for them.

Yes I will, but they should be fine! I was never sure if the tank actually cycled because I never saw any ammonia, nitrites or nitrates in it over 2 months with 6 fish in it, so I never knew if the tank cycled without any real ammonia spike due to the low bioload or if the plants were just using up all the waste. So to be safe I cycled an aquaclear 20 and some gravel in a spare 10 gallon tank using ammonia and then put that filter back on the main tank in addition to its filter (penguin 200). So there should be plenty to handle the load with that second filter and that will be my spare filter that can be moved to a quarantine tank when needed.

But I will of course keep checking it over the upcoming days.
