My baby red tail (3inches) is in a 750 gallon with a lot of fish and its impossible to get him to eat. I tried to put him in a 1 gallon bowl to see if he eats. And he didnt. What do I do? I have had him for around 5 days.

Your profile says you don’t know of the nitrogen cycle, and with a 750 gallon tank, that’s something I’d hope you mastered. It could very well be related. 750 is a lot of water, but judging by your posts, you have a lot of fish in there and would need a crazy amount of filtration for a tank that size.

Wow. You own a red tail? They get very very large. Upto 6 feet in an aquarium even larger in the wild. You will require at least 1000 gal tank as he gets bigger..which will be fast. I'm assuming you researched him before you purchased.

It may take him 5-7 days to settle in. Usually babies eat twice a week and as adults once a week. They're not picky eaters.

What tank mates do you have? Anything smaller than him he will consume. Keep an eye on his growth and any missing fish.

They do like caves. And make sure your tank is where he will get a lot of interaction with you. Like I said they are not picky eaters.

They are omnivorous, but prefer meaty foods. Ideally, the RTC’s diet should consist of sinking carnivore pellets, cut fish and meat, shrimp, crayfish and worms. You might also want to to ensure they’re getting the best diet possible.

Hope this helps. Others may have some better suggestions
