Hey guys,
Have been trying so hard to get this stuff going, finally found the time.
I built 2 x 15 Gallon tanks for use as a qt tanks. They have black silicon, which i'm so glad I used, 'coz it looks great, and is sprayed black on two sides to give the fish a better sense of security. These won't be running full time but over the next 8 - 10 months will definetely do so. These tanks will allow me to hold more fish at a time and also, because I have more than 5 tanks running now, will need it in a tight situation.
My plan is to keep them running for about a year because they will almost always serve as acclimation for fish coming in for my 110 Gallon community.
Filters are simple sponge filters that are quite big so that more bacteria can colonize the sponge, and water is changed twice a week (30 - 50%). They are also barebottom setups. Decor includes soft silk plants I could get, and terracotta pot-plants. Each have a 50W heater as well as the airpump powering the filters is both outlet and battery powered.
I moved my new malawi's into one today, and it's much better being able to inspect the fish clearly, compared to the slightly opaque tub I was using before this.
Quarantine time is IMO the most important time for fish. Once past this stage, you are almost assured success.
