40 Gallon Tank My platy isn't giving birth and is due to give birth

AquaRain

Hey, so there is really nothing i can do but i really want to help her, my pregnant platy just won't give birth and she has been pregnant when i got her and its been way more than just 2-3 weeks with her being pregnant, is there anything that i could perhaps try, i really can't buy anything and have plenty of plants that grow at a decently fast rate, see there was a time where she was hiding and then just stopped and she looks like she was going to give birth but for some reason didn't, idk, i include photos of her

Has it been over a month? Platies usually take 30 days. Watch for a gravid spot behind the belly (it will get darker) and for her stomach to start looking more square rather than round. Is she eating? If so I wouldn't worry too much.

Yes, she is eating, and yes it has been over a month as i got her when she was very pregnant say 2-3 weeks, she was really big and she got bigger, i have had her for over 2-3 weeks
Edit: how does a gravid spot look like, im a beginner

Is the analfin clamped or not? It does look to start pointy on the edge of the analfin. I don't see a gravid spot. This could be a ferm build developing male.

I don't think its clamped, she extends it just fine but i see what you mean, wait, are you saying that she may become a male or something like that?

Ok, i didn't know that could happen
Not sure wether your platy is an initial male (late in this case) or a female that is changing into a male. In case of a female, the female should be a WY or WX female instead of an XX female. WY and WX females are born with both male and female gonads but will start off as being female and can change into a male. XX females will always remain female.
Besides XY males in platies, there are also YY males.

Ah ok, thanks for letting me know about all of this, tho i already have 3 males in the tank, if she does become a male what will i do or is it ok as im anyway getting 3 more females this saturday or sunday and already have 13 females including the mollies of course, the 3 males are the mollies
Edit: i also have 2 molly fry who are both females so that would make 15, 18 once i have the 3 new additions, also its a 40 gallon, btw the 3 new females are mollies
Just to let you know this is how the tank looks right now, i have 5 female bettas in here hence why we are trying our best to heavily plant this tank
Pls ignore the mess

Good luck to the fry that might live with her. They're gonna get eaten (just saying) ive fed my female betta live foods and they happily gobble them up so you might want to keep an eye on them for that. Hope she give birth. Good luck!

Thank you so much, me too, i sure will keep an eye on them, tho i can't keep them all i have tried my best to rise the chance of their survival

if you've got a spare tank or bucket, put the female in there just for the last few days. WARNING: fish get very stressed (to the point of death) with this method but its the best chance you have for the fry. keep this in mind when deciding

ps. you can sell your fry after a month or two when, they've grown up and are healthy, to your LFS (target the ones with younger shopkeepers because you'll be able to convince them better ;))

Unfortunately we don't have a spare tank or bucket that we can use but I'll definitely try to rescue some, they are too cute!
Edit: i also have 2 other platies who are pregnant that have gravid spots that are quite dark so i really have to try and not overstock the tank, lol

These are currently my pregnant fishes 3 are molly and 3 are platy, they were camera shy or atleast spooked when i tried to take photos so sorry for the bad photos, btw, the white one is in her 2nd pregnancy and was the only one out of the first 4 mollies that i got that survived, the others died for an unknown reason probably stress

I wouldn't add too many fish in there, looking at the current stock.

Will my mollies stay the same colour, they have had this colour from birth, i don't mind the colour its only that i can't save more mollies from my white female and i have multiple dalmatians, I'll show a photo of the whole tank, does this look like some would survive once she gives birth, i can't save more but i do hope some will make it

ok, so theres this very cute fry who already has colour its orange with black dots with very little spacing at the end, i can't save more than i already have but i also want this little one to survive atleast 1month, this fry hides in plants, goes to the ground when its dark and is 4 days old since this is the 4th day of when i first saw her/him, is this fry smart and do you think it will survive also she or he doesn't go underneath the gravel, sorry i couldn't get a photo, right now shes hiding, if she gets to 1 month I'll definitely get a photo of her to show you, I'll ask if they can have brine shrimp so they grow faster and hopefully survive, sorry about the bad photo i think its a she, but she is sooo cute

She's still giving birth.... Is that normal, i don't worry about it too much but should i be concerned? Or is she just stressed? Also does anyone know what type of platy this fry is, it already has its color which is pretty amazing and stunning
