30 Gallon Tank My Pirates themed tank - 36 gallon bow front

  • #1
My 36 gallon bow front scaped in a pirates theme. The skull is a Crystal Head vodka bottle which I filled with Tahitian moon sand and sealed with silicone.
The other decorations I picked up from petco and petsmart.

The tall plants in the background are fake, the smaller ones in the front ( Water wisteria, Anarchis, sword plant and moss ball ) are real. I just put on the background this past week. I AM planning to put one more TALL fake plant in the area near the back of the crystal head to even things out. Then I am finished for awhile

Hope you like it! Comments/suggestions/criticism welcomed! Thanks for looking!

Gonna try and get that "green plant" sometime this coming week. As for the substrate, I am holding off on that for now. Already spent so much $$$
But as I say that, I saw the most beautiful corner bowfront tank ( I think it was 150 gallons? ) at the lfs..... I can only dream right now until my lottery paycheck kicks in

Ahaha...from 36 to 150! I understand the money issue...that's why my tank isn't as planted as I'd like.

Oh wow, the things I could do with that if I had a corner big enough

Your tank's looking great, though I must say I'm surprised you didn't go for one of those bubbling treasure chests I conquer with Mo, it takes a while to settle but my new sand looks much better than gravel, and it feels really soft under the water. It's easy to see why fish prefer it. We'll both just have to wait on that lotto ticket, eh?

I was thinking of one of those bubbling treasure chests but I have a few problems with this tank that prevents me from doing that. One is that I have no more room in the tank without it looking too crowded...... two, additional funds at this point to get the one I really wanted ( which is pretty tall and big )
So until my lottery retirement check kicks in, it may be awhile! LOL

LOL WE LOVE IT! My daughter and I both think it's awesome! --Is that a Crystal Vodka bottle? Empty right? We have a Shubunkin my daughter named her Elizabeth Swann, and my daughter picked out this ship for our tank and she thinks it's the black pearl after seeing it in the glass jar in the POTC movie. LOL
TheBlackPearl.jpg So she's kind of got the POTC thing going on. I am going to have to move the gold fish into a pond though because in being a newbie and all, I've been educated that they need a much larger tank than I can do at the moment. The weight is the main concern of buying a tank that's large enough. So........we are hunting for a courtyard wall fountain type fountain :;pirate

Wow that's a really nice ship!!!! I like that! I couldn't find anything real fancy like that - the ones in the store were pretty generic. Where did you get that? I actually wanted to do the POTC theme as well but couldn't find enough things that were specific to the movie ( Davy Jones heart in the box, Black pearl and some Jack Sparrow stuff )
Great tank!

Oh and yes, that is the Crystal Head vodka bottle

You know, its funny you mention that because I have a courtyard fountain that I had built with the planter just last year. Well my plants haven't been doing all that well growing ( we don't get enough sun where the planter is located and we get too much wind that knocks over the plants )
So I was thinking of digging up the planter part ( leaving the fountain ) and making a giant fish pond out of it...... Here's what it looks like now.. That's my plan - again, when my lottery retirement check kicks in

Isn't it amazing how you can look at things and go "I could use that for fish...." xD I walked past two bags of play sand at work last night and all I could think was "substrate"!

I do that ALL the time now!!!!!! That's why I am glad I found this board because NONE of my friends have fish ( well except for one but that's a whole another story ) and can relate to me looking at "odd" things ( like wanting an empty Crystal Head bottle )
I am now thinking of ways to put my 7 yr old sons LEGO'S to work for the 5 gallon tank.......... You know, some type of legoland inside a tank!!! LOLOLOL - oh these ideas keep popping up... Wish I could just build it and put it in there without having to think about substance/paint/toxins, etc.....

Ha...! I have a lot of legos from when I was little...I'm not sure how they'd do in a tank, though lol. I do have a little submarine set and everything, and I'm sure it's still built too. I would research that some more! I couldn't ever do it simply because my fish will be so large they could just break it apart and try to eat the pieces. >.>;

I'm the same, I try to talk to people about fish and they just stare off into the distance and their eyes gloss over. Even one of my co-workers who has a betta lol. She's just not THAT interested in fish. She has her betta and she's content.

LOL - I gave up on talking "fish" with any of my friends - because they aren't in to the hobby, it's really hard to get an educated conversation going here!! LOL
Then my one friend that DOES have a fish ( several of them and is totally oblivious to the Nitrogen cycle ) I don't even talk with her about it ( you may have seen my rant in the rant section post LOL )
I tried giving her advice but no avail so that's a dead issue!
I love this hobby so far!!! It's been an eye opener to say the least!!!! Glad I found this forum!!!

OMG and her fish are still alive??!! I have to change my profile settings now because I have been educated (thoroughly) as to the cycle--thanks to this wonderful forum! --And to think I once believe it was okay to keep a gold fish in a bowl....

So you don't get the credits for emptying the Crystal Vodka bottle??!! That's some mighty fine Vodka...top shelf stuff. Pour some over crushed ice with a fresh little melon ball...cheers!

I dunno - we "Avoid" the fish talk now..... LOL

As for the Crystal head vodka ----- I can't take credit for polishing that off since I don't drink...... Well okay.... but I ONLY drink tequila straight up and ONLY the good stuff - that's about once every few years when I go to Mexico

I love that...looks very pretty. Turning it into a pond one day sounds like an awesome idea. Looks pretty no matter what.

Thanks - I figure its gonna end up a fish pond - nothing grows in it but I am sure it would be a perfect area ( no direct sun ) for fish
