My Picky Betta

So I got a betta from my lfs around 3-4 weeks ago. I couldn't get him to eat so I went and brought spectrum which is what my lfs feeds. He won't come to the top for pellets so I leave them in. He's been getting skinny and I think the MTS are getting the food and not him... I got some bloodworm (frozen hikarI gold) and he finally ate. But he can't just eat blood worm... I have spectrum and seachem betta pellets. He won't as far as I have seen, touch pellets. I also have flake but I've not tried... I honestly don't know what to do. I don't have limitless funds so I need some ideas of what to get my picky guy to eat...

Frozen brine shrimp is about the only thing one of my bettas will eat. He seems to be partially blind so I have to use a chopstick to bring the food right in front of his face, but he eats none the less.

When I got mine he didn't like his betta pellets...
Since then I found that he likes the omega minI pellets, and the sinking shrimp pellets I give the cories So I crush a sinking pellet and he will eat it... It the glow lights don't get them first!

You could feed him freeze dried bloodworms. I use hikarI brand. My betta won't eat any common bottled fish food. She also likes peas and frozen food that I give occasionally.

My other betta didn't like anything either except freeze dried brine shrimp.

I think bettas should eat either freeze dried bloodworms or freeze dried brine shrimp for their diet. I think in nature they mostly eat insects like bloodworms.

However, be careful not to overfeed them or they will get Swim Bladder Disorder

Just a tip, if you feed freeze dried foods to your fish soaking them in tank water is crucial, if you don't they will expand in your bettas stomach. Another food you could also try are live flightless fruit flies, they're high in protein and make my bettas super happy! Hope this helps!

I wish my betta was pickier... She will literally eat anything. She steals sinking bottom feeder pellets and even algae wafers from the shrimp. And now she’s started to figure out that the flakes that I feed the rasboras are food too.

A way to trick your betta into eating is putting a pellet into the straw and place the end of the straw on the surface of the water. Then move it a little on the surface and the instinct of the betta will be to attack it. After a few times doing this your fish will begin to get used to the pellets and after a short while the straw will not be necesarry
