My PetCo

My petco is amazing. Theres one guy that will tell you to at least get three schooling fish. I know its at least 5 or 6, but he was talking about pure bare minimum. If there's a sick fish theyll treat the whole column not just one tank, and they don't let anyone buy. Once I bought sick fish and I came back next day and the column was closed NFS for treating. They have basic food items and some ich treatment, and water conditioner and bacteria starter. They don't have a massive variety of fish like the houston aquarium warehouse in Stafford (my lfs) and its nice to get to refund fish if dead in 30 days, but theyre usually buried in my yard. Btw can PetCo count as an lfs because then petco would technically be my lfs, but I usually buy most fish from Houston Aquarium Warehouse. Ok thanks 4 reading.

The place I brought my Albion algae sucker from, they take them back when they're to big and quarantine them and give you a young one. Otherwise when you buy a fish you only have 48hrs if a fish as died.

My petsmart is the same. The employees are awesome and do their best.

Always water changes, well kept tanks, though many are often sick. Those that are sick they shut down the whole column too. They won't sell a fish knowingly sick, but they don't always know all the things to look for.

They admit if they don't know something and are willing to learn from their customers to learn more. They hate selling fish in for people to cycle with (but can't refuse sales for feeder fish, but will for other fish), but even so they still help as best they can.

My other petsmart locations are not as top notch for their worker care as a whole, but this location is fantastic and I have no shame giving them my business. They take the time to get to know their customers and take time to learn more things.

Understandably theyre a business at the end of the day, so there's only so much employees can actually change. But the employees at mine go above and beyond and genuinely care about the animals in their care.

So its nice to see some nice comments for once about certain chains. Usually its always negative, understandably. I don't have a petco here, but I got petsmart.

If you're in Houston have you been to 360 Aquatics? I was there once, but we were on the way to a family function and couldn't stay long. I want to go back when I have more time.

The whole column is whole shutdown cause their filtersystem runs over the whole column. So if one fish is sick in the top tank it might have spread to the lower ones as well.

Or they use the same net and equipment for the whole column !
